The comfort in the stability of having a permanent father/mother of the nation? I can see that. I find it notable that Norwegians chose to import a Danish prince as figurehead monarch after dissolving the union with Sweden in 1905. Being that it happened so recently, and that they had been without a native monarch for 500 years, one would normally assume that they would just start a blank slate with a republic, like Iceland did after its independence from Denmark. After all, the argument of preserving a traditional institution would be moot, what with there not being any existing institution to preserve.

Don't we all wish we could live in a northern European/Scandinavian country with high levels of per capita wealth, a relatively low level of income inequality, and socialized medicine and education as well as plenty of leisure and support for families allowing people to live happy, healthy, long and productive lives?
