Athough I agree that this is not a good cover, Flava Flav said it was "slammin"

Actually the whole Thank You record is pretty bad. And Duran Duran is by far my favorite band.

Don't even know who the band was, but somone covered The Cure's Love Song a while back. It was terrible.

Alannis Morisette currently has a pretty lame-tastic cover of Seal's Crazy.

    Darth_Banal:

That's what everybody says. In fact, I don't know anyone who so much as prefers Cohen's original version to Buckley's.

Evidently, I'm a minority of one.

No one has done Depeche Mode well except for Dishwalla's (?) cover of "Policy of Truth" and Johnny Cash's cover of "Personal Jesus". And even the Cash version I'm not so sure of.

The Manson version was pure torture.

no way! buckley's version brings tears to my eyes. and in a good way.

could we perhaps talk about good covers? Guns N Roses's Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Van Halen's You Really Got Me, Stevie Ray Vaughan's Little Wing; all covers that, i daresay, are superior to the original.

WHAT? Man, I suppose I can see it, but I just love Rufus' version, it gets me right here (points to heart). Buckley's does nothing for me.

But anyways, just heard the previously mentioned Scissor Sisters "Comfortably Numb." They slaughtered that song!

Since a lot of people are obviously going to cite Limp Bizkit's version of "Behind Blue Eyes", I'd just like to point out that their recent Greatest Hits CD contains a medley cover of both "Home Sweet Home" by Motley Crue and "Bittersweet Symphony" by The Verve.

I took a few listens of it.

I cheered when I heard that his drummer had broken his wrist doing that song. Talk about karma.

can't believe everyone forgot the album pat boone did a few years back with heavy metal covers called "in a metal mood". includes songs such as: no more mr niceguy, enter sandman, panama, stairway to heaven, crazy train, etc... you get the idea. a local radio station will occasionally play a song as a joke.

Is that the lame-tastic Oasis song? Man, that song was crap as it was, let alone if Limp Bizkit covered it.

It's The Verve, not Oasis. I liked the video.

I guess it's not technically a cover, but I seem to recall Jessica Simpson butchering the melody from Jack & Diane a few years back.

Actually, I rather liked A Perfect Circle's take on Imagine. They made it a lot darker harmonically without actually making it gloomy. Granted, that covers album that they did, eMotive, is actually pretty hit-and-miss, but I personally thought they hit the bullseye with Imagine. (And I must say that I dug Maynard's a capella rendition of Joni Mitchell's The Fiddle And The Drum, which closes the disc.)

Truthfully I think Cohen's original version of Hallelujah is pretty weak. Horribly tacky and dated backing track, and Cohen sounds bored the way he sings it. Buckley's version was much stronger and more subtle.

As for Bizkit's "Behind Blue Eyes", beyond the fundamental offensiveness of the band as a concept, I don't see what's so terrible about that cover. They play it pretty straight and I think ditching the slightly rubbish 'rocking' middle section from the original was a pretty smart idea.

    Even creepier.

Another creepy cover: "Santa Baby" by Everclear.

Eartha Kitt can sing this song. A man singing it is just...very cringe-inducing.

"The Greatest Love of All" Whitney Houston song covered by Kevin Rowland. A thoroughly lousy song in the first place, but if you think things can't get worse, you are mistaken.
