    FORTY-SEVEN

Anakin stood behind Jivan and watched as the ramp lowered and a group of Republican guards strode down it. Halting before Obi-Wan, the captain bowed deeply in respect.

"Master Jedi. I understand you have a prisoner for us to escort to Coruscant."

Nodding, Obi-Wan gestured behind him to where Bar approached, Lilith cuffed and following obediently.

"I've spoken with the authorities and apprised them of her current.... condition," he explained softly.

Bar handed Lilith over to the guards before moving to stand next to Anakin.

"Come on." The captain urged Lilith, with a gentle push in the direction of the ship.

She slowly began to move forward, only to stop directly in front of the Jedi. Lifting her head, her cold dead eyes traveled over each of them ,before coming to rest on Jivan. Cocking her head to the side, she smiled brightly.

"One day my pet!" Her voice said in promise.

Jivan drew back at her words, Anakin's hands coming to rest on his shoulders.

    "Captain!" Obi-Wan barked.

Grabbing her by the arm, the man hurriedly rushed her onto the ship. None of them were able to relax until the transport had lifted off, dissappearing into the sky.

Obi-Wan sent his apprentice a brief worried glance before holding his hand out to Bar.

"I'd like to thank you for all you've done."

Pleasantly surprised, the warrior shook his hand, a blush staining his cheeks.

"I didn't do much. Your boys had things well under control," Bar assured him as he studied Anakin and Jivan.

"You have two very special young men here Master Kenobi. I envy you."

Jivan moved forward to stand in front of the huge warrior, who quickly knelt down.

"I'll miss you Bar," Jivan told him sadly. "Do you think you could keep in touch?"

Smiling, Bar gently tugged on Jivan's braid. "You'll be too busy doing Jedi stuff to remember me little one."

Sapphire eyes flashed with indignation. "I'll never forget you!" You're my friend."

When Bar's eyes began to gleam with what looked suspiciously like tears, Anakin hurried forward to clasp Jivan's shoulders.

"Neither one of us will ever forget. Promise to look us up when you're on Coruscant?"

Glancing briefly toward the small transport that would carry the Jedi back home, Bar nodded with a smile.

"I promise. Now you better go!" He ordered them gruffly.

Jivan gave him a quick hug, before taking the hand that Anakin held out to him and entering the ship. Obi-Wan shook the long sleeve of his robe back, and held something out to the warrior. A perplexed frown on his face, Bar accepted it.

"It's a comlink that has a direct line to the Jedi Temple. You'll be able to keep in touch with them, and if you ever need anything don't hesitate to contact us." Obi-Wan instructed him.

Nodding, Bar clipped it to his belt and watched as the Jedi Master hurried toward the ship.

Halting at the foot of the ramp, Obi-Wan felt a sudden spike in the Force. Turning around his gaze swept the ridge that encircled the landing pad.

    In the dista

The black-cloaked figure was a nice touch, whoever he may be. I get the feeling we may not find out in this story, though!

I liked how Obi gave Bar the commlink and told him to call if he ever needed anything. That probably meant alot the the warrior. And Lilith is just too creepy! Why couldn't she have died as well?

Eeek! Lilith gives me the creeps. Maybe you can write a sequel with her so you can properly kill her off. [face_devil]

And Mr. Black Clothes--Khalid? The was the real Xan, wasn't it ... so he's been checking up on Obi through the years?

    The story's nearly over, isn't it? :_|

Sheila You never know who might show up. [face_devil]

    PK Clever girl. :D

    DL6669 Poor unloved Lilith! :(

    HHP Pretty smart cookie! ;)

I may have confused some of you by writing this series out of order. Face is part one, Worth Fighting For is part two, Standing on Broken Dreams is part three and Somewhere is part four. This fic ties in very strongly with Somewhere and ties up any loose ends left here. :)

    Updated Somewhere today! :)

    CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT

Finishing his report, Anakin moved back to stand next to Jivan slightly behind Obi-Wan. Master Yoda?s feline eyes blinked lazily.

    "Done well you have Anakin."

Mace nodded in agreement. "Indeed. You had much to deal with, and yet proved yourself to be a powerful knight."

"Thank you Masters," Anakin said with a bow. "I had an excellent teacher."

Obi-Wan smiled faintly at his words, drawing the Council?s attention his way.

"Dismissed you are Knight Skywalker and Padawan Jivan," Yoda said in quiet dismissal.

Tossing his mentor a worried glance, Anakin bowed before leading Jivan out of the room. The instant the door shut behind them, Mace eyed Obi-Wan sternly.

"Would you care to explain your recent actions Obi-Wan?"

Tucking his hands into the sleeves of his robe, Obi-Wan studied them with a raised eyebrow. "Which actions would you be referring to Master Windu?"

Bristling at words, Mace sat forward. "Let?s start with you taking off without the Council?s approval or knowledge. Then you can explain what possessed you to seek out the galaxy?s most notorious crime lord and make a deal with him. A deal that required you to turn over genetic samples that can be used for Force knows what! Then, to top it all off, you interfered with another Jedi?s mission, and could have endangered him and your own padawan."

As his stern words fell between them, Obi-Wan drew himself up.

"With all due respect Master, I felt within my rights to pursue the matter. My original mission was to escort the children to Agri-Corps. When they were abducted, along with my apprentice, I felt my mission mandated that I get them back," he explained calmly.

Ki-Adi shook his coned head in disbelief. "You purposefully blurred the lines for your own benefit Obi-Wan, and in the process acted in a very un Jedi like manner."

Blue-gray eyes narrowed, resentment burning in their luminous depths.

"In what way Master? By retrieving the children safely before they could be sold as chattel? Or was it when I rescued my nine year old padawan from a lunatic that had him chained like a pet?" Obi-Wan demanded.

Master Yoda sighed heavily at the tension in the room. "Taught you too well Qui-Gon did. The enemy we are not, Obi-Wan."

Biting back another scathing retort, Obi-Wan clenched his jaw and bowed his head. Breathing deeply, he struggled to find his calm center.

"Forgive me Masters, for my disrespect. I did what I believed the Force willed me to," he replied more calmly.

Studying him for some time in silence, Master Yoda finally shook his head, his eyes gleaming with worry.

"Hope we must that come back to haunt you, these choices won?t."

A chill traveled down Obi-Wan?s spine at his words, the black clothed figure coming to mind. Shrugging off his unease, he faced the Jedi Master with resolve.

"I?m comfortable with the choices I made on this mission Master."

Yoda?s pointed ears lifted as he seemed to be peering into the future.

"Remind you I will of this conversation one day. Dismissed you are."

Bowing, Obi-Wan spun on his heel and swept from the room, the Jedi Master?s words echoing in his head.

Great work, OE - I love how you're tying this story to Somewhere. I also love rogue Obi and I'm glad he's picked up a little of Qui-Gon. A litte of the rogue never hurt anyone (especially someone who looks like that...).

But tomorrow's the end? Say it ain't so! :D Well, at least there's Somewhere to keep me going. Any other plot bunnies I can help feed? :D

Ah, Rouge Kenobi [face_love] Thank goodness Buckethead managed to pass on some of his better qualities.

"Hope we must that come back to haunt you, these choices won?t." hehehe. That's all I'm gonna say [face_mischief] Except for this--"haunt"? That's certainly the wrong word ;)
