Would Padme have died if Anakin had waited in the jedi temple while Mace finished off palps?
And if she did live, how do you think the story would be different?

Her heart wouldn't be broken by Anakin's betrayal, had he stayed loyal to the Jedi and Republic. Regardless of Mace taking Palpatine or not, she would not be broken hearted by what Anakin did. Beyond that it's hard to determine what would happen. At best she would be giving birth soon and when Anakin realizes that she will not die, he'd finally start to get what his training was telling him.

...I guess that all depends on whether she really was going to die in childbirth anway. And for that matter what killed her in the first place. It seems like a possibility that Anakin had a hand in it by choking her, but the medical droids said there was nothing wrong with her physically so this does not seem to be the case. But if she did live the story I think would have gone much the same. Padme is not stupid and I think would have sooner or later either jumped ship with the twins and earned Vader's wrath, or become a covert member of the Rebellion. I think what would have been interesting is if Vader/Palps had gotten the twins. That would have been bad news as assumedly the Galaxy would then have two more Powerful Darksiders. Perhaps to replace Palps and old poppa wheezy when the time was right. Dark Side Luke and Leai ruling the Empire, crushing the rebellion, neat story I think.

She died of a broken heart, brought on by Anakin's betrayal and the betrayal of Palpatine. At the prospect that her world was crumbling and she couldn't deal with it without Anakin. The vision he had was a result of the path he was on and the end result of his betrayal. The only damage the choke did was emotionally and mentally.

But if anakin had waited in the jedi temple Palps would have died -mace was ready to kill him-so I think the story would have been completly different. -IMO- Anakin wouldn't even be Darth Vader.

Can you die of a broken heart? Like actually? That is a lil bit funky.

No, she wouldn't have died as Anakin is the one who brought about her death.

Yes, you can die of a broken heart. Death can be achieved by simply losing the will to live and allowing your emotions to affect your health. Or you can commit suicide.

People have died of broken hearts. It's been documented on a few occassions. They brood, and mourn themselves into death.

Cause it was in Portman's contract. She didn't want to do anything else with Star Wars after RTOS. Three movies were enough for her.
So George was like oh ok we'll kill her. The character not Portman. [face_laugh]

She wouldn't have been choked by Vader, then rushed to a godforsaken asteroid to have her children delivered by robots. Padme's "destiny" was dermined by her husbands fall, when she became just another possesion. So Padme probably would've lived.
And if she lived, the story would hinge on whether Anakin turned or not. She could not have stayed with him if he became a Sith, but perhaps would've continued to act, in conjunction with O-W, as Anakin's moral compass.

As long as we realize this is a 'what if' world we are talking about . . . .

Anakin had a special trust with Palpatine. We'd have to take a few steps back to the opera, where Palps tells Anakin the story of Plagueis the Wise and his power to keep people from dying. This set the seed of hope in Anakin's mind to prevent Padme from dying. He knew at this point in the saga that he needed Palaptine. So it is doubtful that Anakin would have stayed in the Temple knowing Mace and the posse would kill him if need be.

Just for grins, if Anakin did exercise extraordinary restraint and managed to stay in the Temple, Palpatine would have found a way to survive. The dude always has a backup plan. So at best (for Mace) it would have been a draw, Palps would go to the Senate and proclaim the Jedi traitors. Anakin in this situation would have to choose whether to serve Palps or remain with the renegade Jedi. Palps would use a preggers Padme as barter material to help make up Anakin's mind.

If Palps killed Mace without Anakin around, the same story holds true. After Palps goes before the Senate, he then forces Anakin to choose serving him or die, much as he did with Luke decades later. Since the OT demands Vader live and duel Obi-Wan twice (lose, win), Anakin accepts. Palps knows Padme is a threat to him (always has) and he turns Anakin against her (in any number of ways -- she's hot for Obi-Wan, she's part of the pro-Jedi faction, etc.). Padme is forced into hiding for the safety of the twins, delivers and then at some point down the road dies of a broken heart knowing her hubby is now Palpatine's attack dog and heavy breathing 'spam in a can.'

Again, just an exercise of what could have been based upon Master_Bauer's question. Flame away!

It can happen in real life, but it is more commonly found in fiction. Romantic fiction. So here it is used appropriately.
