Abrams's [sarcastic airquotes]Star Trek[/sarcastic airquotes] got me thinking. Would you watch an alternate universe Star Wars movie? The ST is over. They're releasing Star Wars movies all over the place now. Would you watch Episode IV if it were a complete remake in an alternate universe? Anakin never met Padme, never turned to the dark side, Luke and Leia were never born - and perhaps it was Obi-Wan who turned?

I'd watch an "Anakin never turned" AU.

If it was just for fun I would watch a movie where Yoda is a Sith. That would be scary.

Yes I would. The lack of being shackled to some really horrible canon is why infinities are so good.

I suppose so. An AU where Anakin remains in the Jedi Temple while Mace Windu kills Darth Sidious, then the Jedi Order and the Republic go through a reformation after all the damage the Sith had done to the Galaxy. I'm not sure that makes for as compelling a story to tell as the one in which we got, but it is one in which Luke and Leia could become Jedi from their births and so on and so forth.

I would. But, then, my Alternate Dimension selves might not.

Sure. While we're at it, let's see a remake of Indiana Jones where he's not an archaeologist. Or a Batman film where Bruce Wayne is just some rich guy, who doesn't fight crime. [face_plain]

Well, I guess it wouldn´t hurt to see it. I´m going to see Episode VII regardless of whether it retcons the EU or not, so it´s a similar matter.
I, however, would strongly be against the idea of the alternate universe going beyond a single movie or a trilogy at max. The Star Wars continuity is already so vast...imagine it being twice the size.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
If they ever decided to make an alternative universe movie, that would mean they lack inspiration!

No, let's assume it's outside the ST as a standalone movie.

Sure, I'd give it a watch at some point. Abrams' Trek was a decent space adventure despite being terrible Star Trek. For a similar situation in Star Wars I would just convince myself to forget the Star Wars title and approach the film from a different angle. In fact that's probably how I'll approach Episode VII.

You are not shackled. The time interval between DOTJ and Legacy is about 25000 years.

Obviously what I meant to say was; Yes I would go see an alternate reality or "what if" Star SW movie. The lack of being shackled to some really horrible canon is why infinities are so good, even though there is 2,500 years between DOTJ and Legacy. (??)

Nope. Once SW jumps the shark I will be in my bedroom crying.

Obviously I'll go watch it. I'll go see every Star Wars movie until the day I die. But, it'd probably suck honestly.

Maybe if it was time-traveling movie, I might, but a pure 'alternate history' movie? No way.

Save it for the comics, it works there, but not on film.

The question is, basically, would you watch a reboot of SW?

Yes, I would watch a reboot, but I don't know if I would necessarily like it. As much as I would love a PT do-over, it would be hard seeing the OT undergo change. However, seeing as I loved what they did with Star Trek, I'd be willing to at least have a look.

Im sure I would no matter how good or bad it was. Im suprised Marvel Movies have not done this yet. They used to have a comic book What If series.

I like the new Trek. And this is coming from an old ST fan.

I would definitely see an alternate SW universe if it was done right. Maybe not recasting Luke, Han, etc. but focusing on a new set of characters in the same time period (after events that nullify Skywalker and crew not being around).
