as my wife and i are expecting our 3rd child in jan we are having this argument/debate about names.
if it is a boy i want to name him......ANAKIN
my wife wants nothing to do with it (middle name only)
so i want to know who would or wouldn't name their son Anakin??? i have heard of people doing it.
i also want to know why or why not as my mind is very clouded.

    thanking you in advance.....

    jabbathegreat...i mean jabbathenutt.

I voted NO as I thought of the child's school years where bullying and harrassment can have a very detrimental effect! Middle name yes, perhaps Luke or Ben :D as first name. Still has a strong connection to SW!!

I believe A-D's young lad is named Luke!!

Exactly as Obi-Wan Toddi stated, go with Luke or Ben. U and your friends will get the connection, but the 6 foot 4th grader will not! LOL... Seriously, though, Luke is an excellent name. Non-fans won't even get the connection, and they don't deserve to!

Yes, my son is named Luke, but as I explained to my husband, its a biblical name. So he doesn't get teased, as I expect a boy named Anakin would, he'd even be called Annie, and that's kinda strange. So I voted no. To be honest, I was sure I was having a girl when I was carrying Luke, his name was going to be Nicole Amber. But imagine my shock to find a boy! The name was the only one we both agreed on and his second name was like, "The papers are here, what are we gonna use?" He got his fathers name there. But by the same token, he fell over at school in first term and went to the office to get a bandaid. When the nurse asked his name he told her 'Luke Skywalker'. So...um....yeah....

    Sorry JTN

I'd love to anme a child Anakin but the payouts would be too great. Hayden would be a better name. Apparently THAT name has nothing to do with Star Wars hey Fox ??

Imagine having to go to school with the name Denathor

so much for you guys knowing your Dutch heritage.......

Anakin is actually a verrrry old Dutch name, not sure what it means, but it was popular around 300 years ago.

    end of history lesson..

anyway, no, don't name your kid a star wars name, as Toddi said, the bullying and teasing just isn't worth it. Maybe as a middle name, but not a first name. You could always do what Fox's sister did (accidently, she's not a star wars fan) and name him Hayden...hee hee.

Seriously, it would be like calling a daughter Padme. Not worth the kid hating you later in life for the name.

    :)

HI ALL FROM W.A. (over here for 6 mths) Anakin as a middle name was a good suggestion, as a first name might be a touch extreme but it is your choice so go with what you and your partner want.

My missus and I want to name our first son "Bort"
Or maybe Pubert if we really hate him.

For a Star Warsie name you can go with a cool Unknown EU name Like Corran IE :Corran Horn
Fans will know, bullies will not.

Anakin is a middle name. I reckon go for Hayden.

But let's face it, this is a very very nerdy conversation.
