I really don't think it matters what you call your offspring these days. Twenty or thirty years ago calling your kid Anakin would have been a huge no-no, and would of guaranteed a world of pain for your young one, but in 2005/2006 it really doesn't matter.

I mean, you always hear about people calling their kids stupid names. A few weeks ago I read in the 'Tiser that there was an increase in babies being named Schappelle. No offense to anyone called, or who loves the name Schappelle, but for one thing - its the name of a convicted drug smuggler, and for another - its the worst white trash name I think anyone could ever come up with.

Anakin sounds normal by comparison.

And lets face it, kids are cruel little buggers and they'll always find something to pick on. Whether he wears glasses or is five kilos overweight, or even if mum or dad drives a Kingswood circa 1976, there's always something for the other kids to endlessly taunt him about.

 

Indeedy. Make sure the kid has an huge older brother before naming him Anakin.

You do realise Mixo that if you call your kid "Moby" most kids will drop the "Moby" and just call him "Dick!"

When I was at Celebration III waiting in a line, there was a couple ahead of me with two young children. The boy was named Anakin and the girl was Anaka. I couldn't help but think how much both of them were going to hate their parents when they were teenagers!

Having said that, if you really like the name that much, and I do think Anakin is a cool name, go for it. I mean if people called Robert can abbreviate their name to Bob, or people named William can abbreviate their name to Bill, I suppose someone named Anakin could abbreviate their name to Nick as opposed to Ani and get away with it.

As far as the vote is concerned, I'm staying neutral as it is ultimately your decision to make with your spouse.
