When the Death Star fire's the powerful weapon, in both ANH and ROTJ, you can see two men, gunner's I guess, standing in a tunnel when the powerfullaser starts out.

Is it just me? Look at the way the power from the lazer makes them glow green. A laser that powerful can't be health to stand next to. I would some bio-armor or something.
I bet 3-4months after this shot they started to lose there hair.

And I am sure there will be no chance of a little gunner following in Daddy's footsteps. I can just see one of them telling the Emperor that he is now sterile and wants to sue.

If the GFFA has planet destroying technology, hyperspace travel, etc. what makes you think their energy has the same flaws of our energy? Most likely their energy is so much more effective, that people can just stand next to it like that without any radiation.

^^ I don't think the inhabitants of the planet were able to stand near the beam without ill effects...

There's a difference between radiation and destructive power, you know.

Well, technically, it's radioactivity that makes people sterile and whatnot, not lasers. The only health risk I'm aware of with lasers is you can fry your retinas by staring directly into a high-power one.

Of course, the Death Star laser was big enough that it did a lot more than damage the eyesight of the people it hit. :p

Yes, and people smiled and then poked at the theory a bit. This is Star Wars - EVERYTHING is taken seriously. ;)

Though I was always surprised that they had the functioning area open like that. I was curious if it was just technicians working on it who got caught by surprise when it was fired, or people who were actually in the ignition sequence. Seems silly to leave it so open like that where the danger of something obstructing the laser could get in the way.

I bet 3-4months after this shot they started to lose there hair.

I bet a few days later, they were dead when the Death Star blew up. >D

*massive burst of planet-destroying laser energy roars past*

Gunner #1 : Oooh, I hate that. I have to blink to get the spots out of my eyes.

Why spend money on equipment when you can just tell them to turn their heads? ;)
