If there's fewer regular episodes to broadcast, the networks will have more time to devote to election coverage! Everybody wins!

I bet the Writers are glad the renewal will be in 2020. It gives them so much leverage. The late night shows and SNL will be want their networks to pay through the nose to save their election coverage.

Perhaps Colbert wishes that one joke had written itself so no one else could be blamed for it.

No more single writer TV series according to WGA demands. Which is fine, auteur theory is bunk

The WGA was also looking to secure a number of staff – six writers including four writer/producers – as part of “pre-greenlight rooms”, otherwise known as mini-rooms – and “post-greenlight rooms” where one writer per episode up to six episodes, then one additional writer required for each two episodes after six. For instance, an eight episode show would require seven writers including four writer/producers and a ten episode show would require eight writers including five writer/producers.

The studios again rejected this, pointing to shows such as HBO’s The White Lotus, which was written entirely by Mike White.

Maybe there's an industry thing, but I don't see the point to this writers room thing. It seems homogenizing.

Well, if you’re working on a single story arc (like most premium shows or streaming shows) than consistency is valuable, even if style and innovation are still needed - and it might play into the WGA wanting to avoid being treated as “gig” workers, since a reliable writers room would be more like a roster of employees, and could help each other if need be.

    I’m 1000% on the WGA’s side.

The concessions the corps gave them were utter bull****

Skynet doesn't need nukes. Just Olive Garden.

I kind of want to try "Pasta Nachos" tho.
