Some people still don't consider this a "legitimate" medium, but I think it is quickly becoming the standard in our society. Although traditional artistic tools will never be abandoned, I think there is a beauty and depth to be found in works done on a computer platform that can't be matched elsewhere.

Here are some of my favorite examples:

Please share your favorite digital images... stills from games and movies are welcome. :)

Kerryn should post some of her stuff here, she's an amazing designer. :)

Yeah, I've seen some of her stuff. Very good. Very ingenious.

I don't know much about it myself, actually, technically. It's a different world to me. But I can enjoy and appreciate it, which is what matters in art.

    Thanks. [face_blush]

Actually, I've designed a new banner for my FanForce region and I was hoping to get your opinions on it. Don't worry about being too scathing! I can take it!

Excellent. Here's your report card. ;)

Great eye for composition: on the right, the heads -- Dormé, Lars, Typho -- are gradually "moving up", and in the middle the big window to create space.

And the feeling of movement on the left of Zam shooting and the X-Wings attacking, with the dark blue ocean colors (very "oceania") to add a little suspense. Smart to add the alien lettering, as it mirrors the forum title, so that the forum title doesn't appear out of place between all the images.

    Yep, really good.

And I know, 'cause I've got taste.

The only thing I'd possibly change is Jango -- a helmet in the rain would be nice there, maybe, because it has dark blue in it, and it's a little more diverse there then. But I wouldn't know for sure until I saw it.

    There you go!

    :)

Yes, personally I like that better.

A big flesh-coloured face near the text might have been a little too distracting. And the shiny metal rhymes with the Droid Ship that I never know the name of, and the Kaminoan building on the right. And he looks a bit brooding and mysterious, like the theme of the banner.

I don't want to sound like some deranged art critic, by the way -- it's just that I like talking about this kind of stuff.

    :)

Heh. You don't sound like a deranged art critic. Thanks for the advice. :)

Oh, and I always call those ships 'control ships' because someone says in TPM "Look! The control ship has been destroyed!" .... and then they all party.

    :D

Droid Control Ship! That was it.

I'm losing my pop culture knowledge: first Tiny and Keyop, now Sly Moore and the ship. Where are the days I knew a Bib Fortuna from a Salacious Crumb?

But seriously, the banner looks terrific. Great work.

Just start a topic: OCEANIA FORUM GUYS LOOK HERE!

We'll up it until we get kicked out of the house. ;)

Let's make it a test of who actually reads this forum from that region. I won't PM anyone or post as a sock and we'll see how long it takes for someone to notice.

    ;)

In the meantime, here's the Naboo image I made that I like to post a lot.

I've seen that one, yes. Amazing.

I don't want to gush or seem like an idiot, but it's really fantastically done. It's bloody real.

EDIT: "Deranged Art Critic Casper Calls Work By Artist "Bloody REAL".
