So Famous_Amos is on a spiel to get more people postting in Comms. I hate Comms. It is scary and I am afraid if I post here I will be blacklisted. I think a great example of why people don't bother to post here is the way this thread went:

NJOfan215: [JCC:] New social threads in the JC

If you read that, the dicussion went to why Darth_Snowball and his specific issues with the mods and why he can't do a social thread. No offense against Snowball, that was a good time to jump in actually, but WT[H}? It degraded into a mod vs. user thread, and there was nobody who tried to get it back on topic. Who are the moderaters for this forum? What happened to NJOfan's original topic?

Yeah, it sucked that it got off topic. I like Comms, but I guess it can be kind of intimadating. But I think you should look through these parts, and if you feel strongly about an issue then post in that thread.

Yes, I once felt the same way too. Comms is a place for serious discussion on serious issues and alot of Users here are very strongly opinionated.. So that makes for some intimidation. But in a way that's what's best, the intimidation factor helps deter unwanted or unnecessary conversations.

It's also the fact that the mods give their most biased coverage in here that keeps people away, imo.

In some ways, it's not worth your effort to post in here because people get away with flaming/baiting/trolling in here more than any other forum.

Well, the problem stems from the fact that...

    a) Some people don't understand the purpose of Comms.
    b) Some discussions aren't up for discussion.
    c) Some people just come here for the fun of it.

Add those three together... and you have some issues.

Basically, the JCC thread was, for the most part, pointless. The JC Communications Forum is to resolve board-wide issues. I'd actually even go as far as to say complaints about pop-up ads have more relevance in here than the JCC social thread thread. Why? Because the JCC mods have dominion over the JCC and they have clearly enunciated the rules as to social thread creation. Don't like it? PM THEM FIRST! Don't like their answer? PM SAPE OR KK NEXT! If you still haven't gotten a satisfactory answer, you *might* post a Comms thread or you might realize that you'd be better off jumping in the line for a social thread.

And that's really where much of the confusion can be avoided. Once something hits Comms -- it's global. Which means that everyone and their unknown twin brother can post about it. And if it's something that shouldn't have ever been brought to Comms in the first place... well, let's just say that the responses are likely to be less than stellar.

Now, there's another aspect as well. Sometimes there ARE things which ordinarily would be "Comms thread worthy" -- such as the slash discussion -- which also have no place in Comms. These are what we refer to as "owner edicts" -- meaning the owners handed down these rules and there's not much we can do about it. Sadly, those often provoke the best actual discussions, even if there's nothing we can do.

So that's the story of Comms. And, since it's Passover, let me say...

"When Sapient was in Egypt-land... let my KK go..."

You have no idea how pissed I am when I just saw that thread locked. We were making progress and found a way to make things work.

Somebody was willing to give up their social thread and simple change the title from the Fecal Force to the JCC Knights. What freakin' harm would that have done?

It's just one simple thread we are asking for.

What, so you want all 60 of us to start 3 a day in the JCC?

I'd have to second what dp4m just posted..

Comms is the mod/user interface that is supposed to allow for that discussion, as much as practically possible.

What everyone has to realize is that we do take all suggestions very seriously. It's been said before, and I'm sure it will have to be said again. We wouldn't be here if we didn't.

However, on the flip side, it's simply not possible to undertake every suggestion. That doesn't mean that such suggestions are not used to make adjustments to policy, it's just that the specifics may not be realized right away.

Snowball - you successfully derailed one thread, I'll ask you politely not to derail this one.

What, so you want all 60 of us to start 3 a day in the JCC?

    Is that a threat ?

What, so you want all 60 of us to start 3 a day in the JCC?

But you also have to realize that such an attiude is part of the problem, and doesn't really help your original request.

Not being a JCC mod, but still watching from behind the scenes, how many examples like this do we have to go through?

Basically, what you are saying is that if you don't get your way, you are going to make it rough for everyone else. How much spam will we have to look forward to? How much porn is going to be posted this time, out of some misguided sense of revenge?

Why don't we just skip all that nonsense?

If you have a problem with any policy, by all means, make that problem known. But what you have to realize is that we are concerned with a board-wide solution.

That means that you may not get your specific wish, but that the solution may benefit everyone.

Certainly though, I think everyone can agree that making threats is not the best way to get your point across.

What, so you want all 60 of us to start 3 a day in the JCC?

The real question is, do you feel lucky? Well, do you?

Something like that would likely be considered a coordinated trolilng attack, and would wind up getting a large number of people banned, and would do nothing to get you what you want. If anything, it would make you more likely to fail in your desires.

ONLY because I happened to miss the particular discussion... if the FF were willing to edit their title and give their thread to the Knights, why was that denied?

he was just saying that we all have about 3 interesting things to say a day, in general, and that without a social thread to talk about them in, we'd have to start new threads to talk.

no one said anything about trolling.

Comms is often a forum that starts off being used correctly and quickly turns south by the inappropriate and repeated actions of a few that cause the entire thread to turn into a disaster. Most things on this messageboard are easily solved. Some people try to make that seem otherwise and cause more harm than good in this forum whether or not that was their intention.

All i've heard in here in "it's not fair", etc.

is it not fair that a group of active posters, the very lifeblood of these forums, who made a home in the 3SA GIL, will be out of a home in a few weeks?

isn't there anyone that gets that we are asking for a REPLACEMENT thread, not a new one?

it would be like killing someone else's social thread, and saying, oh well , you'll have to stand in line if you want another.

we just want what we've had. a fun place to post. and me merry.

why is that being taken away? because they'll be nothing left to stand in line for.

why is not being replaced? politics.

I'm sorry, but every time I see one of you post that as an arguement I can't help but laugh at it.

Ahhh... the crux of the matter. So it's not really that you want to have a JCC social thread, but one to replace the one you all perceive that you will lose in a month in 3SA. Then guess what, follow the ample precendent set over the years for social groups across most of the movie forums that have "been denied a home" in a specific forum and start one in SW Miscellaneous. That is a more appropriate forum than the JCC considering that the group comes directly out of a movie forum.

i didn't see any answers to why special consideration can't be given to a group whose thread will be irrelevant, if not not there come the release of ROTS.

The only answers i saw were typical.

They didn't think outside of the box, nor take into account the entire set of circumstances.

i'm not stirring up trouble here, i'm just having a discussion, which is what this thread is about, and it's point is simply being proven yet again.

The GIL thread isn't literal. People aren't actually currently lined up outside the cinema posting from their laptop. Absolutely nothing is going to happen to that thread upon the release of ROTS - it will remain as the social thread in the 3SA.

The answer was posted several times by different people in the original thread.

Again, we're derailed and offtopic, and I'm getting kinda bored answering the same questions with the same answers.

So, is there Mod approval for a thread in SWMiscellaneous, then?

But this is something that can absolutely be taken care of with the procedure that is already in place.

If you are concerned about your 3SA thread, did you contact the mod of the forum where you want to move it to?

If you close down the 3SA thread, perhaps you can follow Dingo's advice and properly move your thread?

All it takes is a little prior planning, rather than trying to ramrod something through after the fact, or demanding some sort of special treatment.

so the plan is to let us rot away in a shell of a GIL that will have no visibilty once ROTS is in the can?

heck, why not just offer us a social thread in the AOTC forum? that'd be great!

seriously. 3SA is the reason the TFN exists. after it's gone, they'll be nothing new but a lame tv show to talk about. so we should all stick together and be friends where we usually are, in the JCC.

it's just amazing to me that we can't start a simple thread.
no regard to the length of our existance here, no regard to the countless hours of fun and joy we bring to the boards, no regard for even the fun banter and beautiful differences of opinion we have.
    just strict rules and regulations.

well, master yoda, you'll find the way you look at the force(.net) needs to change. perhaps a maverick jedi, can teach you a thing or too, perhaps you aare still to stuck in your ways to see the truth, until it is too late.

the boards are gonna change when the movies here and gone. the rules should too. frankly, in a few months TF.N will be begging for hits, and it shouldn't ostracize the members it has.
