I'm working my way through Smoky Mountain Wrestling on youtube... I've never seen it before, kind of reminds me of the feel of the ollllld WCW Worldwide when it was just mid-cards vs jobbers. Up to episode 5 now. It's mulletty derptastic!

What happened to the Funkasaurus? Did that fizzle or is Clay just too dangerous?

 

They did the idiotic thing that WWE likes to do when they've got a good thing going and turned him heel and that fizzled out fairly quickly.

Can't say I'm surprised with Aksana's release. She wasn't that good in the ring, and regardless of if Cameron was going to get the Divas title from AJ or not, her momentum pretty much got stopped cold when Aksana's botched move caused that orbital eye socket injury.

Am surprised they released Teddy Long though, even if there was no TV role for him at the moment, surely he could have been retained as a manager for one of the NXTers or something.

Haven't they just put Brodus Clay in that diabolical cartoon series of theirs? And wasn't he in that Scooby Doo tie in too? The fickle ******s. They obviously invested quite a bit in his character only to dump it now... I've seen his gifs and ring entrance videos pop up in some unexpected places, he was entering pop culture... It seems like WWE are just flushing money away one way or another.

Maybe it's because he's black.

 

I don't think it's because he's black, I think it's more honestly that they flushed away a good gimmick for him by turning him heel before the Funkasauras gimmick had run it's true course (I honestly would have turned Big T heel before I would've turned Brodus, if they were going to break up the Tons of Funk team), and didn't know what else to do with him in the aftermath.

 

Word is that Brodus fell out of favor with creative. Teddy's contract was up soon and he was going to leave the company anyway.

Ooh, he's supposed to be the good one, isn't he.

Perhaps he's going to heal Willow, just like Bram is healing (heeling?) Magnus* and the two teams will feud only to have the whole thing turn to **** and/or fizzle out.*

*Just like when they did it with EY and Abyss, Magnus and Abyss, Sting and Magnus, Sting and Kurt Angle......................

I think that might have been part of the inspiration. Rhodes used to have the Triforce on his boots. He's an old school video gamer. The name, aside from matching Goldust, was based off of Dusty Rhodes who used to refer to himself as Stardust. The face paint design from Goldust is now based off of Darth Maul and the yellow eyes on Stardust are an homage to the Sith. The Rhodes brothers are Star Wars fans. But also, Cody Rhodes is a huge X-Men comics fan. According to Marvel interviews, Archangel and Mr Sinister are some of his favorite characters.

So that is where all of this came from.

 

So is Cody calling himself Dust now? I mean, his name isn't Dustin. It's Cody. Seems a bit contrived (not to mention leaching off daddy's legacy and copying your older brother's gimmick).

 

Star Dust is what Cody's calling himself. It's a companion piece to Goldust.

 

Yeah, poor Cody. :/

Anyway, I just watched Slamiversary 12 and I really enjoyed it. Fantastic show. Every match was pretty awesome, highlights were the Xdiv title, the TNA-HoF induction thing (The Dudleys!), EC3 vs Bully Ray was a work of genius, and the main event itself was far from the botch everyone was expecting. Aries and EY made Lashley look like a GOD in that cage. There were a few ****-ups but nothing that spoiled the match, while there were a load of this is awesomes. The crowd was behind Aries, which can't have pleased the bookers, but EY and Aries are pros so they turned it around in the end.

The only low point was the new Von Erichs vs Bromans; those VE boys cannot sell. The Bromans did all the work and it showed. The match was mercifully short.

This show ****es on standard WWE PPVs (it's no Royal Rumble or Wrestlemania obviously).

He'll always be Marcus Alexander Bagwell to me.

BTW I'm about 28 episodes in to Smoky Mountain Wrestling and I only just realised that Zeb Colter is Dutch Mantel!
