But it's gone now. Leave it alone.

If it does return, I will watch with an open mind. Hopefully, it'll be good.

I will watch wishing it would go away. There are occasions I'd seriously rather a franchise stay where it was than return... pretty much whatever the quality of that return. It went on far too long in the first place.

Everton has this strange condition wherein he believes that should a franchise go beyond a point with which he's comfortable, then it irrevocably ruins every episode/film which preceded that point

    Correct.

EDIT: Mostly correct. In this case correct.

Yeah, the Dogget/Reyes seasons were painful, and the second movie was... I don't know--it had its decent moments, but also its bad moments. With the right creative team, who learns from past mistakes, it could be good. I'll definitely watch and hope for the best. I just love the show and the characters, so much, and am open to seeing more.

Seriously, I do take your point. I'd just rather see something new. The X-Files was of its time, and I'd loathe to see it brought up to date. It wouldn't be the same show. No matter how good it was by today's standards.

It could be a better show (I know, I'm really reaching here... lol). Why so doomy and gloomy?

The story the show was conceived to tell has been told (and stretched a little thinly even then). Had The X-Files been a failure in the first instance I would be of a different mind, but it wasn't. It was triumphant, at least for the majority of its run. That's enough for me.

I love the idea of bringing it back, and actually am a fan of the ideas of bringing back shows that were actually iconic and great for most of their respective runs. It's one more season, who cares if it's 20 years later.

Hopefully with a genuine good story, and with todays budget for TV effects, it could be something great.

I hope they do bring it back just so Everton can't watch the original episodes any more

A part of me asks why this is even still possible, this needs to just be over with. Another part has mostly fond memories and it was my favorite show at one point.

I haven't even watched past season six yet because I don't have the season 7 DVD yet, I got season 8 though. But right now I'm in the "I can't get enough of this" mode, I plan on going for the IDW comics once I'm done with the show. I got some of the novels too....I'm so addicted...

No. Buy all the DVD's. And buy the Blu-rays of both the movies. And buy 15 direct-to-video crapfest sequels to action movies because you have the money so why the hell not?

Yeah, once I have more money I will reactivate my account. I finished season 5 when it expired (and got the first movie on blu immediately after) and have been getting the DVDs since.

I honestly don't think I would watch this. Back in the day, I didn't even bother with the post-Mulder seasons. I might give it a try if reliable people or Everton said the first episodes were good, I guess...
