This is bothering me too. Even if he's presented as American, his name can still be Pietro. Like, we have people from all different cultures here and also people known as, you know, immigrants. We're not that stupid. He can be called Pietro.

This assumes that the family is portrayed as immigrants.

Someone at the Premiere yesterday said much the same as that review - Terminator esque but with not enough screen time for everyone.
That did always seem to be the risk with so many characters

Channing Tatum has been confirmed as Gambit.

I'm sure there will be some, if not, a lot of backlash to Tatum as Gambit, but not from me. I'll give him a chance. Dude has gone on record that he wants the role and will bring his A game to the role.

I just wish they put X-23 on the screen. The timing is right with Hugh Jackman set to retire. Laura Kinney can fill the gap until they reboot Wolverine.

I've warmed over to Channing after seeing 21 Jump Street.

Me, too. I have a bit of a man crush actually.

As an aside, does Gambit ever go shirtless?

So I guess "cautious optimism" is or best bet here?

I care little for either character or actor, tbh. But does that mean that XO: Wolverine is relegated to "didn't happen" status?

I certainly hope so. When Will I Am is one of the better things about your movie, you know you're in trouble.

I suspect they'll trim off both The Last Stand and Origins if the hippie X-Men team is able to reset the clock in DOFP, it'll also allow them to bring back Cyke and Jean.

No, it still happened. Just someone else is playing him. Remember, according to the first two films, it had been fifteen years since Logan woke up with his memories missing. "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" takes place fifteen years in the past. So they'll keep it loose, but the time frame is close to being right.

Woah! Not sure what to think of that. I'm not a big fan of Tatum and rather liked Taylor Kitsch in the role and kinda had this silly hope he would return. But Gambit is one of my favorites so I will be optimistic!

Taylor Kitsch was awful as was the movie itself. The more distance, the better.

Oh yeah the movie was a terrible monstrosity and better left forgotten, but the only thing I actually liked about it was Kitsch (and Patrick Stewart, anything with Patrick Stewart). I don't know if Channing is much of an improvement though.

Well, I applaud Fox for moving forward with Hugh Jackman/Wolverine after X-Men Origins: Wolverine, unlike WB and Green Lantern. I mean at WonderCon, Fox studio producer Simon Kinberg acknowledge they screwed up the X-Men franchise with The Last Stand and are working to repair the damage. I think they are taking the same approach with Gambit.

Actually, my question was just a sincere if rhetorical "I hope to the gods wish that godawful XO: Wolverine is somehow obliterated from this and any continuity" wish. :p

You mean you actually liked Stewart's hideously bloated cameo?

I liked seeing Stewart and did enjoy the cameo, but it sure lacked any sense. I just blindy enjoy seeing Patrick Stewart.

"XO: Wolverine" sounds like some potential "X-O Manowar" spinoff I'd want to see :p

The more promo stuff I see for this, the more I want to see it, which is really odd because I was all set to hate this. Quicksilver, insane costume and advertising shenanigans aside, looks really fun and the scenes we've seen look really ridiculously over-the-top. It's starting to look like they're just going to all-out embrace the Silver Age feel, and I'm surprised and engaged by that. I'm ready to eat my words :p

Kind of unlikely given that The Wolverine links together the Origins film and DOFP in the same continuity, no matter what time travel shenanigans may happen going forward.

Tell me this 3 years ago and I would have probably complained like many people probably are now, but dude has comeback with some strong roles and made himself into a good comedy actor. He's no longer the STEP UP dude.

I think he can pull it off easy if you ask me.

Not sure how. Charles heard about what Stryker was doing, which was referred to in the first two films. He heard about the abductions and used Cerebro to track them down. Pretty simple, if you ask me.

The only thing I've seen him in is White House Down, which was painfully bad.
