This is the one upcoming superhero movie I'm getting excited about in spite of myself. I liked First Class, I liked the Bryan Singer X-Men films, and I love the main cast.

I hope this isn't terrible in the brain-numbingly-stupid-I-need-a-lobotomy sense like X-Men: The Last Stand was, or in the oh-god-I-need-to-get-out-of-here-and-slash-some-car-tires-in-the-parking-lot like X-Men Origins: Wolverine was.

Should I be worried about the whole "too many characters for everybody to have enough screen time" thing?

That's only a problem if they actually try to make an equal distribution of screentime. What they should instead do, like in X2, is relegate most people to cameos, a few people to standing in the background, and very few more to simple emotional arcs that can be handled in under 10 minutes screen time (eg Nightcrawler, Storm, Pyro). Then with the remaining main characters, write an actual story. This was done pretty well with First Class, too. Even for all the flaws of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, this wasn't really one of them, so I don't think we should be concerned. Unlike the Spiderman franchise, they have a good track record.

Given the nature of the storyline based upon spoilers, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. We're dealing with two different points in time. Most of the action seems to be in the 70's, so the focus will be there. The stuff in the present day, the total screen time will probably be less than you'd expect. Enough to justify their return, but not so much that it overwhelms things.

    Some info Singer tweeted.

Singer says the film is "a bit darker than the previous films, particularly because of the stakes," and Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique will be "a much more hardened kick-ass character".

Amongst the newmutants we'll see there's Blink, Bishop, Sunspot, Warpath, Ink, and Quicksilver.

The trailer itself will be "primarily a character piece, as most of our VFX are not yet finished."

We'll also see some of the 1970s-set scenes using filming techniques of the time as he used "colors, some of the style [and] music" from the era, along with "16 [and] 8mm footage which I operated myself for some scenes."

Singer also credited the cast, saying they are all "great actors who know their characters - who know how to bring them to life."

Really jarring edit in the middle, but otherwise it certainly got me keen!

Trailer music sounded a lot like Inception, and you know what? I'm perfectly fine with that. I have high hopes for this. The franchise is really starting to come around with two pretty decent ones before this one.

    Yes please.

X-Men movies often have awesome trailers- this one keeps the tradition going.

The prospect of present-day Xavier/Magneto teaming up is just the best.

Nice. This is really shaping up to be an exciting film. I loved First Class, and am really looking forward to how this film ties that one to the original trilogy.
