So Matthew Vaughn is out of the project... but Bryan Singer is back!

    Also,
rumored appearances by Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Famke Janssen and Ian McKellen

He's probably going to be busy with the movie he just agreed to direct, ie, this one.

Singer being back is fantastic news. X2 is still one of the top 5 superhero flicks ever made. Hopefully this and The Wolverine can further recover from the X3/Wolverine debacle, as well as FC's wavy continuity.

I don't know if I'd hold it at number 1, or any particular film, only because there's such a diverse range of flavors now for great comic book films that it's really hard to say one is definitely better than another- especially since one's preference for particular characters can influence that so much.

Superman I has the camp but also some amazing gravitas (and Reaves has yet to be topped in the role) and legendary score.

The Dark Knight has the epic urban crime thriller mixed with some amazing performances.

X2 has some wonderful character interplay. Iron Man has a great 'building the hero'.. And The Avengers manages to have some of almost all of the above.

And, with tastes and variety being what they are in the genre, one can swap out a couple on an individual basis, etc.

Spiderman 2 is the clear leader in superhero films. It is heretofore unsurpassed.

Sorry, was jumping back and forth between some EU tabs and this thread when i wrote that, had SW author Michael Reaves on the brain.

As for Spider-Man 2, I was never as blown away by it as others were at the time. I felt it was stronger in some areas than SM1 but weaker in others. And now, after having seen Garfield as Parker in ASM, I find it difficult to go back to the Raimi films and watch Tobey in the role without laughing sometimes (he's still fine in some scenes, though).
