6.2 out of 10, and I'm being very generous.

a lot of action, but it was taking a coincidence to the next level. another prob was that it talked too much about sex and dating and all that.

8.5/10. On the whole, good stuff.

Stackpole has a funny effect on me: If I am reading his descriptions of something, I am quite interested; on the other hand, if I am reading his dialogue, I cringe. As many others before me have noted, his dialogue alternates between stilted, overly explanatory, or moralizing. Oh well. At least a superlaser doesn't shoot out of their mouths. Bad dialogue beats bad superweapons, in my book.

7/10. Before I read Wraith Squadron, I thought that the Rogue Squadron books were the best in the E.U. I even liked them more than the Thrawn trilogy. Nowadays, I think they are near the top, but no longer at the top. Mat Stover and Aaron Allston are constantly blowing me away with their Star Wars writing. Stackpole's last offerring was a bit of a letdown. But Wedge's gamble was my favorite of the original four X-Wing books.
