Any thoughts on the possibility of a curvy, chromed X-Wing?

Might be a little too much of a PT-nod for some.

Perhaps combine the ARC-170 with the X-Wing and have the wing split into 3, all with laser cannons?

I want the X-wing frame to be most recognizable as an X-wing more than anything else. I think the X-wing is almost as iconic as the Falcon, so they need to keep true to it more.

They can find ways to update it without cannibalizing it IMO. ;)

Makes sense. Successors maybe could have the extra wings, engines, torpedo tubes, etc but the "late-model X-Wing" should still be the same basic chassis, even if the exterior's different in one way or another.

Back on page 11, soul8luos posted this link:
"Parked on the Tatooine set at Pinewood Studios is a Ralph McQuarrie styled X-wing similar to the one we saw leaked in the TMZ photos. It is sporting a silver paint job. The engine intakes are more rounded than the classic X-wing we all know and love."

I don't think we've seen an actual picture of that, yet, but it might be kinda close to what you described?

That's a dull grey paint job, not silver.

Is the picture from that link taken on a Tatooine-like set? I can't view social media-sourced images, videos, etc on my work computer, so it is a serious question. I had thought when I pulled it up a while back that the only picture we had was set in a hangar/warehouse-type area. That X-Wing didn't appear to be painted, or at best was in gray primer. To my knowledge, we don't have a picture of the X-Wing with a silver paint job, yet. (?)

It's the pinewood studios flat background mockup that was heavily dissected here.

The X-Wings in Crimson Empire II seem to have extra engine intakes and more armour along the fuselage:

might be a good example of "visually distinct yet still clearly X-wings".

    That is DAMN AWESOME! YES!

I love the design of the new X-Wing with the steps built into the side of the body. Was that John Boyega? The X-Wing suit looks the same with a slight alteration to the design of the helmet.

    The Mouse Droid....priceless.

JJ Abrams is winning me over little by little.

*This thread is about to blow up* :p

I wonder if the 'rebel' uniforms are going to remain the same...

I'm going to take it with a grain of salt. Just because there's footage of JJ leaning on a brand new X wing on set doesn't mean an X wing is in this movie.

It looks as if the wings were supposed to stay like that and not open for attack position.

Someone will have to say 'Lock S Foils for attack position', so I'm fairly certain they'll open up and separate.

the helmet's definitely different...seems like a combo of the rebel helmet and the clone pilot helmets from ep3

i'm also seeing a rebel alliance logo on his jacket there...

the side view, definitely a new helmet....the 'ear' pieces seem to be chrome...

Just looking at real world events I would totally understand why they'd choose to prolong the galactic civil war like that if they actually are still fighting the empire. I remember the day Mubarak resigned and there was partying in the streets in Egypt and look how short lived that was.

awesome. is this the same as the model inside that we saw before? and gimme a break if you don't have faith in j.j. yet.

it doesn't look like the wings split. do you think it ill be like the arc-fighter wings?

yeah. we can't even permanently resolve conflict on our tiny little planet, so yeah it's a bit unreasonable to expect the emperors death to end a civil war across an entire galaxy immediately...
