You have round or boxy. Both have been taken.

This looks like it's blending the two. It's an OT X-wing with the rounder features of the PT.
That seems like a logical compromise.

See earlier in this thread... there was good analysis showing how the wing could in fact split. And ironically a comparison to the ARC-170, which did have splitting wings.

Love the X-Wing! It's certainly seen some battle!
I also love the pilot and how it's changed very little, if at all. :)

The only thing the video was missing was Bob! :p

this pic makes it look like no splitting engine. i think the wings rotate on the outside of the engines.

From the way that looks, I'm going to say only ONE wing section moves. The back part slides up. Just looking at the landing gear and the fact I can't see any "Pivot point" hardware visible on the front of the engine.

I don't have time to make a gif or paint a picture, but basically, the front "Main" wing stays level, the back part splits off and raises up.

MMmm. When you can vote more than once in a poll it kind of ruins the outcome.

I certainly don't see this at all a 'spiritual SUCCESSOR' to the X-Wing. More of a predecessor than anything..

There is the possibility that this is not the sole fighter used (presumably by the good guys). There could be a mix of X-Wing styles. Or various others. ROTJ had the B-Wing and A-Wing. ANH had also the Y-Wing.

Look again. This new X-wingy-thingy has way more rounded edges than the familar version.

maybe the engines DO split. i can't decide. there is a small seam in the middle if you look close enough. if they split open it would match the mquarrie art almost exactly.

Probably why they didn't use the design and left it in the concept art folder. It's cool that Ep. VII is drawing from it either way.

    Agreed, JediKnightWax.

What do you mean, Acroyear? The choices are not mutually exclusive, so it makes sense that people can vote for more than one option. This simplifies it from having a poll with every option combination listed as a separate choice.

I don't think so, the model already has some kind of mechanical moving parts such as the cockpit.

If only the upper foils move, it would look like a lying K not an X, so I think both foils move, On the Hi-Res pictures you can see a small seam on the outer ring of the engines, whoch would suggest a split.

We don't know that the Rebel Alliance stuck together after the OT. They might have split into multiple factions, and this X-Wing could be from a faction that uses blue.

Yes, but my point still stands. This is not the paintjob of the OT rebel alliance.

Yeah, i dont like it either. Ralph McQuarrie created the concept art which was used to create the final product he did not create the final product. Now we have the tech, and money, to actually make it look exactly like what is drawn but this should not have been done.

I am not going to consider this an X-wing, maybe this is a Z-99 Headhunter II.
Yeah that sounds better. Z-99 Headhunter II...

The stripes are there to identify the squadron.
Red Stripes were for Red Squadron which Luke and Wedge continued to use for Rogue.
The yellow stripes on the y-wing were for Gold Squadron.

The stripes could be any color. We probably saw more Red than anything else because we usually saw Rogue squadron or because the props people didnt care to make different colors?

With the combination of this and Rebels, I'm beginning to worry about McQuarrie becoming the new Lucas. I won't be surprised if we see a McQuarrie edition of the OT.

I dont it has anything to do with Ralph, this is about the new folks in charge listening to a certain group of fans.
There has been a group of people for a while wanting a Star Wars that followed the Ralph designs and it looks that some one over at Disney thought this was a good idea because it may also bring the rest of the fan community into their movies.

Hopefully there is more of a mixing of designs in this movie rather than one unified look because if everything is all going to be Ralph McQuarrized.... this is going to be a big different in looks, again, for a new Trilogy.
