Yay! The DVD of the live action "The Tick" show is out now!

This show was so underated it's absurd, especially with all the crap out there now (I'm talking to YOU reality TV!). I'm glad to see the show got its dues with a DVD. Probably will be a cult classic.

Ditto, I've never even heard of the show. What's it about?

 

The show was funny at times but it has to be in the top 10 of the worst TV shows ever created.

 

You've got to be joking. It's hilarious! You've never read the comic or seen the cartoon? It's completely awesome. It's all about inept super heroes and their fight against evil. But then it cuts to their personal lives which are even funnier.

Check it out (read the amazon reviews), it got rave reviews from both the press and the public. But Fox aired it at stupid times and thus it never caught on with the "public". Screw em, I'll take the Tick over Friends any day. Patrick Warburton rules.

"He's the Wild Blue Yonder, and The Tick is back to show why this outlandishly funny TV series should never have been canceled! After proving his mettle in comic books and animated TV, creator Ben Edlund's blue-insect superhero made his auspicious debut on Fox (in November 2001), portrayed in live action (in a buff-muscled rubber suit) by Patrick Warburton, the popular Seinfeld guest star (as "Puddy"), who instantly perfected the role he was born to play. In his appreciative commentary track, co-executive producer (and Men in Black director) Barry Sonnenfeld calls the pilot episode "the best thing I've ever directed," and it's easy to agree: wide-angle lenses, stylized sets, hilarious dialogue, and a comedically gifted cast make the episode (and the entire series) a perfect summation of Sonnenfeld's wacky style. Attentive to the more mundane aspects of superheroism, The Tick offers outrageous villains (like the nefarious "Destroyo") and eccentric allies (like Ron Perlman's hilarious "Fiery Blaze") while showing that even crimefighters have everyday problems and desires. With the wannabe Latin lover Batmanuel (Nestor Carbonell) and patriotic amazon Captain Liberty (Liz Vassey), the Tick attacks the eccentric evil of the world: fire-spewing Apocalypse Cow, 112-year-old supervillain The Terror, formerly pudgy ballerina Destroyo, Arthur's relatives, and robots who are trying to kill Jimmy Carter. In the meantime, Our Heroes have to deal with dogs, mixed dating (superhero/ordinary person), porn shoots, Captain Liberty accidently killing the poorly-named celebrity-superhero Immortal (in the sack, no less!), the snobby League of Heroes, and the Tick's search for his true identity.

It doesn't get much goofier than "Tick," which spoofs the sort of comic book heroes like Superman and Batman. The villains are over-the-top (check out Destroyo's tanklike exoskeleton), the heroes are more often insane than not, and sidekicks form little clubs to complain about how their heroes

 

When did it come out? Tuesday?

I've been thinking about getting it. I didn't love it when it was on the air but after seeing the strength of Ben's writting on other shows I thought that I had probably written it off too soon.

 

....the cartoon "Tick" was hilarious..

THe live action "Tick" had a solid first episode....And then they started focusing on sex jokes.. Sex jokes that just were not funny..


Biggest mistake they made was not casting Bruce Campbell as Die Fledermaus...(what the heck were they thinking, making him a mexican lover?)

Overall: A huge disappointment.

 

Okay, this just shot to the top of my Christmas list. I loved this show when it was out. I tried to watch every episode (failed miserably since I didn't have a tv at the time). I found the sex jokes annoying, but I could get past that to see the true hilarity of The Tick.

I nearly fell out of my seat laughing in the theatre [face_shame] when I saw that Patrick Warburton was reprising his role as The Tick in MIBII. It makes sense though since I believe Barry Sonnenfeld directed the second Men in Black film.

 

I look forward to seeing The Tick live action episodes on DVD. Now if they put the animated Tick series on DVD were good to go!
Too bad that in the live action Tick, our Giant Blue Justice did'nt cry out his, uh, battle cry of SPOON!!!

The cartoon was great. The live action series was complete garbage, barely distinguishable from all the other tripe the networks regularly shovel into the colossal slop bucket that is prime-time TV.

Ben Edlund, one of the writers of the live action version, is a highly coveted new additon to the Mutant Enemy writting staff. His work on their shows have been absolutely hilarious. Firefly, Buffy, and tonights great Angel (though maybe they should get him off that show the guy seems to have bad luck when it comes to shows getting canceled ) so I have wanted to see him at his roots.

 

I'm glad that it is a two disc set. To put only three episodes to a disc would have been a pain in the neck (it's bad enough that ST:TNG only puts four episodes on each disc). I thought that this show was great when it aired. I would also love to find the cartoon episodes and rewatch them sometime.
