Is this true

 

This is debatable. I never really noticed this until I read it online, even after seeing the movie numerous times.
When I see that scene now and pay attention to what Luke is saying, it sounds like he could be saying either "Carrie!" or "Hhheeyy!"...

I think this is one of those SW issues that will never be resolved, kind of like the Brown Jacket/Blue Jacket debate regarding the color of Han Solo's Jacket on Hoth in ESB...

 

To confuse further, both Mark Hamill and George Lucas have both confirmed and denied depending on the interview.

 

I always thought he shouted "Hey!!!". Or that's how it sounds to me.

 

My ears have caught either Hey! or Yay! mostly Hey...

i have heard the same thing for years. There was a quiz a couple of days ago on cnn.com. It was a multiple choice answer; but they worded the question as if it was a fact. something like "when Mark Hamill jumps off his fighter; being caught up in the moment; yells out ...A)carrie b) han c)c3po and something else.

i answered "carrie" cause i had heard this before and wanted to see where the quiz stood on this issue. I was right..but i have never been able to absolutely say he says that...it always sounded like a drawn out "hey" to me.

 

I vaguely remember starwars.com actually adressing this issue a few years ago and I think the answer is noone knows what Mark Hamill really said. Does anyone else remember this?

 

If he yelled "Carrie" wouldn't they immediately have yelled "cut" and laughed at him?

 

The last info about it was on the DVD. Hammill said he didn't yell carrie, but I can't remember what he really said.

 

In an interview for a magazine Mark Hamil said his line was going to be, "There you are!" But he totally flubbed it and wound up saying nothing but gibberish.

Yup. About two years ago I believe, in their monthly Question/Answer section.

 

Yes in all version of the films he yells Carrie and Hey

 

He yells 'heeyyyy'.

Why would he say Carrie? Because he's all caught up in the excitement of victory? Because he's geeked about just destroying the Death Star and surviving?

Think about that for a minute...

 

I've can't say i've ever heard hey!!! or carrie. Heard WOOT!

 

I honestly have never heard carrie. It was always hey.

 

I've always thought it was Carrie, but it could be hey. Can't really verify it.

In all the versions of ANH that I've seen (and I've seen all of them) he's always shouted "Hey!!!". There's no mistaking that, even from when I was a kid.

 

now that i watched anh again ive relized its hey

 

"Hey".

 

I've always heard "HEY", but I wouldn't say it is impossible for such a big mistake like "Carrie" making into the movie. I refuse to believe that a stormtrooper hitting his head on a door was meant to be there.
