I hate to say this but majority of the movie wasn't mind blowing..I finally had the chance to see and I don't think I would give it an 8.9 (the rating at imdb.com) Heath Ledger did do a fantastic job..not to take away from Jack Nicholson but honestly you can't compare. I do see why Heath Ledger got the accolades for this movie but as far as the movie itself I think Batman Begins is a lot better. The best part of the movie is definitely the ending but for the rest of the movie it's just an entertaining movie..I don't see what all the hype and hoopla is about. I personally would give Batman Begins an 8.7 and The Dark Knight about an 8.2 at the most..there are some entertaining things about the movie..and I personally though Katie Holmes did a way better job as Rachel than Maggie. I'm going to have to vote on this movie here and give it an 8 because I can't vote 8.2..but I can't give it a 9 either because I've seen a lot more better movies in my life..in part a lot of this movie just jumped around too much..the story was promising but I believe for this movie to have been better it should have been 3 hours not 2 1/2..it was edited together too tight for the story to tell.

Again great job Heath Ledger..RIP..you will be missed for sure! You definitely saved the best for last..although I still loved Jack's role as the Joker too :)

I enjoyed The Dark Knight but I do think Begins is a "better" movie, but it's because I prefer the world created in the first compared to the re-examination of it in the second. I didn't like the direction they went with some of the technology because they'd emphasized the theatricality and deception Batman needed to use to survive. My hope is that, if they do indeed make a third Nolanverse Batman, they show Bruce's retreat from a technological reliance and instead a return to what makes him an interesting hero in my opinion- a human being who uses his brain and his body (both honed to a razor edge) rather then a gadgeteer who whips something up (and at times unrealistically "on the spot") to deal with a problem. And unlike, say, Spider Man 2 and X-2 which I watched over and over and over... I haven't really done that, and I don't find myself immediately and enthusiastically asking for another movie.

On a side note... I'm not sure I could nitpick the nitty gritty of a .7 difference in ratings... [face_plain] To me, a 1-10 scale is questionable because numerically, 5 is really your "middle" number but Americans acquaint 7 as "average" thanks to the public score grading system which leads into a whole lot of ambiguity. Assuming you're talking a B+ (8.9) versus a B- (8.2).... well, it's both an astronomical and a trivial difference depending on who you talk to - it doesn't help that "most of the time", ratings like these ignore half of the scale (below 5) anyways... so what's the point of all those extra numbers?

Sorry I responded to your first paragraph by responding in the quote..my part is the 2nd paragraph..by the way..another reason I enjoyed Batman Begins more than TDK is because Liam Neeson played the villian..every movie I have seen of his he played the good guy of course in the Star Wars universe too :) but he did an excellent job :)

BTW...when I saw Casino Royal a couple years ago it was the first time and I thought it was the best Bond movie ever even over all the Roger Moore and Brosnan days but I finally saw Quantum Of Solace a couple weeks ago and I was hugely disappointed..I don't know what happened but it was a let down compared to Casino Royal..I do however think that The Dark Knight is a better 2nd movie than Quantum..of all the sequels over the years..I have to say that Pirates of the Caribbean part 3 is my least favorite...actually Quantum and Pirates part 3 are about even but TDK is better

I, agree, Darthmetalhead. I felt The Dark Night was just a little too over rated and even though Ledger did a good job as the Joker, I liked Jack Nicholson's better (I put Jack Torrence of the Shining and Jack Nicholson's Joker together anytime I see the first Tim Burton Batman movie and so to me, at least the Joker character as this more gangster character, you have a real psycho Joker even if he isn't as outrageously wild as he is in the Nolan movie). Personally, DK was a little too realistically done and I felt it took away much of that comic book atmosphere that was conveyed more in the first Tim Burton Batman, which was both a dark, forbidden looking atmosphere while having that touch of the gruesome other worldly city of Gotham like many of the comic books have had.

Out of The first and second Nolan Batman movies, I did think the first was done better and went into Batman's/Bruce Wayne's character more. Also, the Scarecrow's hallucinations that he would strike his victims with were big bad (as both in neatly done in effects as well as freaky) trips!

For me, however, nothing beats Tim Burton's first Batman (I didn't go for his sequels.).

If they do make more Nolan sequels, good or bad ones, it will be interesting to see where they go.
