Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirate's Life For Me: The Pirates of the Caribbean

finally got to see AWE last week and Im seeing it again tomorrow. It was a really good movie. I enjoyed it aside from the small nitpics but it was a decent end that brought closure to the Trilogy. I went in with really no expectations so it was worth seeing it. There were a lot of surprises there I wasn't expecting.

Rating: 8.5/10

 

It feels so much like ROTJ except that the fact that will and liz aren't brother and sister and Jack and Liz didn't get together.

 

and that the new bad guy, whose place gets infiltrated in the first 20 minutes, who didn't matter at all in the other two movies, doesn't die and does matter in the rest of the movie

Despite all the RotJ similarities, I'm glad they didn't do a Vader-esque redemption for Davy Jones. And of course, Will's fate is strikingly different to Luke's, while still adhering to his archetype. Good stuff.

 

Pintel and Ragetti are more droids than any other characters

 

The scene with Elizabeth on Feng's ship, the moment I saw her with the headpiece on her head, reminded me of Queen Sabe (ahem decoy queen) but I was relieved when the thing fell off her head after the explosion. She looked damn fine with the stylish robes and all.

 

are not! They're Jar Jar. Or Ewoks.

 

Keira looked hot in the whole movie. As faux-Calypso, as Pirate King, even in Singapore with the Raiden hat.

 

Makes me wish she was Amidala in the prequels. -sighs- only one can imagine and wonder.

 

I think a combination of the two would've been interesting.

 

Pirates almost cracked 5 for the weekend. 300 is a certainty. 305 is looking good as well. Hoping for high Wednesday numbers.

Gah! Each had characteristics that they put into the characters that made them intriguing. I can't give every single one, but I hope this is a clearer picture somewhat.

 

Well, if you put it that way, I would prefer Keira's Elizabeth Swann portrayal in the SW prequels as Senator Amidala. You know, take Elizabeth's role and replace it with Portman's portrayal of the Senator. I can clearly see Keira as Senator Amidala already... damn. her in the white jump suit...with her tummy exposed...

 

Pirate King Swann vs. Naboo Queen Amidala???

 

Well... I take Pirate King Swann any day.

 

Pirates has now broken 300 million!! Well, now they've broken even.

 

Don't forget that that is only domestic intake. Pirates will take a lot more over seas.

I was just reminded of this somehow... Last year, some pictures of Captain Jack disguised as a Singapore pirate were released, yet he never appeared like that in the final cut of the movie. Was that just a red herring or was (yet another) subplot and storyline cut? Or did they just decide it was best to keep Captain Jack dressed like Captain Jack and they reshot those scenes?

 

I don't think the intention was to ever change Jack's wardrobe. In interviews with the cast and crew, Jack is a character who doesn't change throughout the entire trilogy - the only one. His costume was specifically left unchanged to reflect this.

 

We're going to break COTBP. Pretty nice finisher there.
