Well, it could be some sort of mental endurance test, or it could just be the usual that they're malicious, sadistic b@$tards - Depending on how charitable you're feeling at the time.

Sorry I didn't sympathise better last week Lozza as I'm right there with ya atm.

WS: Had two wisdom teeth pulled on Thursday, and the worst thing, apart from being hungry is that the pain is easing too slowly for my liking. Spent yesterday on some decent painkillers and will continue them today by feel of it.

    Ikk.

Centrelink does suck LC..especially with uni type stuff..suck almost as much as Telstra which I'm having the same continuing problem I've had with them for 5 months. Noice. Don't have the strength to ring anymore..juut not paying the bill for now.

    WS:
How a trip to the letter box become a couple hours of drama after the front door slammed close behind me.

Me= no shoes, no keys and no phone and just had a decent dose of medication.

Goobs due home in 3 hours or so. I decided to jump the back fence into our back yard to see if I'd left the back door unlocked ..

( on a sidenote, that was something burglars did to our house last week, broke through the screen, managed to grab a nearby key and steal all our ready cash..stoopid criminals..anyway! That should've been it's own What Sucks)

Back door locked, due to my increased security measures. Thought I could sit and wait for Goobs. Half hour into waiting the pain started returning, and mosquitos started biting and my little kid heart realised it would be very dark soon in the yard.

Not knowing my neighbours and having seen the immediate ones drive out earlier, my socially retarded brain discounted thoughts of knocking on random neighbours doors asking for assistance, and a plan was hatched to walk to the nearest phone box, and reverse call charge someone! Goob was the immediate thought, although remembering his mobile is elsewhere whilst he worked, and that no-one at his workplace would accept a reverse call charge, I had the option of two land line numbers I could remember, or using the phone book to ring someone else to come get me.

The two numbers were my Mum and my ex..my ex living in our old house, hence the remembering of that number. I knew he would come get me should I ring but the embarrassment and smug look on his face might be too much to bear, so I chose the Mum plan. Asked her to get in contact with Goob at work, on mubers other than his mobile, and tell him his stupid other half had locked herself out and could he come home.

And to be short, she did, and he did.

Thought of ringing you BBN or LOzza to see if you were far away, but I doubt I'd ever accept a reverse charges call from some random number. I knew Mum would. Being a parent to a bunch of sillies like she is makes it necessary. Ah Mums..Yey for Mums, and for Goobs.

I was a little sad, embarrassed and sore creature that said my best Wash "Hello..??' when GOobs pulled up and let me in.

Sucks that I'm now mozzie bitten and mouth is sorer than it was the rest of the day, possibly the jumping of fences related, and I'm a big dufus. Still, it's a dumb, and perhaps funny story I thought I'd share, so that my WS might make someone else smile.

PS.. am awake at 1am writing short stories on star wars threads in order to keep my mind off pain whilst meds kick in. Feels nice to write, regardless of the writing.

    YKWS?

Started school at 7.30am this morning like normal, just got home and it's now 10pm with only a tiny break for dinner in the middle of it. No time in lieu, no extra day to make up for the fact that I just worked for 14 or so straight hours and virtually no community recognition. Next time someone tells me that as a teacher I only work 9am-3pm I'm going to go tell them where to go in the most colour, florid and un-teacher like manner I can possibly do from the amount of left over energy I possess on that particular day...which, given my current effort, if virtually nothing...

    But the thought will count.

Sympathies for you Kit. Those long days of after school activities and before school prep must be a killer..although I'm sure the bad teachers enjoy the ride. You're a good one, and people appreciate it..remember that! HUGS though!

Foudn a cool book I'll ahve to give you to read at an antique store. Marriage and sex book from 1945. More controversial thatn you'd think about a women's place in the world. I think youa nd some of your classes would appreciate it!

Anyway!... what sucks..rainstorm, but still STINKING HOT.

AS: kid sick again over the last couple days..can't pinpoint what's wrong but high temps causing night terrors ( not awake but scared and chaotic behaviour that freaks parents out but kids don't remember)

    Wekeend????? cool!

    Today sucks.

Got some really awful news (thanks Jodes for letting me know), and spent most of today crying/on the verge of tears/ zoned out. Pretty awful stuff really. I hate being so far away from the people I love and care about!

    What also sucks?

Realising that you look awful in every single photo. Urgh. Especially when you know you looked good in person.

Such a bad ****ing day. *sigh*

POssibly not the place to post it, but an acqaintance and friend of some of us, Alannah's Dad was killed in an accident a couple of days ago. Many of us probably know her as Abi and Curtis' friend.

Stuff like this this happening to anyone is awful and to someone you've laughed and chatted to is yuk. To those of you who know her better, love sent, and hopes that she gets whatever she needs to be okay as she can.

Reminds us to make the most of time with people we love

    Thoughts with Alannah.

    WS:

I pulled my shoulder out about a month ago and it just isn't getting better. Doc has sent me to a sepcialist but goodness knows when I will be able to get it. I'm only working half days, which is all I can manage, then I come home and take a nap. But in all of this the worst part is that I sleep terribly, fevered dreams every night for the last week and more, and tonight - even better - I'm not sleeping at all :( 20 past 12 as I write this :S

Oh no Lozza. Have you already seen the Orthopaedic specialist? I know I can get you in within a couple weeks, if you get me a referral. Didn't realise it was this bad. Oh you poor thing! You can always go to Emergency at TPCH too if you need to. We do Orthopaedic stuff there.

    Ice pack hug for you.

    I'll sms you some stuff.

    YKWS?

Being woken up at 7o'clock in the morning (after having quite a late night, and I'm still sick) by housemates stomping about the house (they don't walk, they stomp, it's normal), slamming doors, and making a huge ruckus outside...

As they set up a garage sale that they FAILED to inform me about. Apparently I don't need to know these things. Apparently these things don't affect me. No I'm not affected at all by a 7am rude wake up call...

The thing is, they're generally nice people, and I'm sure it wasn't done on purpose.

Which just makes them inconsiderate instead of vindictive.

And still leaves me awake at Stupid o'clock in the morning.

    "Corporate Re-structuring"

Due to the infinite wisdom of parent company 'Which Bank'.. 21 people in our region were made redundant on Thursday. How's ya father? Clear out your desk. Now I've been repeatedly told how in the current economic climate, that supposedly, I'm lucky to still have a job. But there's something about the arithmatic behind having to do essentially the same workload, but with 3 less people, that leaves me scratchin' me head.

Oh wait, that's why they told me to bend over![face_plain]

You hear about the heartlessness of these things on the news. Faceless jobs on the chopping block at the whim of accountants & yes-men worried only about the bottom line. But when you put a face, & a family behind these 60, 70, 80-KPA positions turned to dust...

The one thing that you realise, is that you've indeed witnessed the machinations of true evil.

Truly does suck CJ. It feels like companies are using the "economic crisis" to say..hey good time to cut staff, increase the workload of others and justify it easily and if complaints are made..well "you're lucky to even have a job, suck it up". That must be hard for you to watch CJ and not tell them to shove their job on principle. Does feel like evil doesn't it.

I work for a government type company so firing people isn't something they are quite as easily able to do. However, strangely after people get moved to other areas or leave to pursue other jobs, people aren't re-filling their positions. Leaving those that are left to work all the harder, in much the same way.

Today, the work I've been doing these last 6 months or so was pretty much given the "not really important" cross on the page, so I'm being moved to a position I dislike, doing a job I don't require hardly any of my brain for, but with 2 less staff than last time I worked there, and with more work. Still as my old manager gave me a position working 5 hour hours a day, which suits me being a parent of a school kid, I have to be grateful to have that job ( as it was never officially "written" anywhere")...and await when they ask me to return to working full-time or 3 full days requiring my kid to go to before/after school care from 730-5

Yeah I get that the fact I'm divorced, share custody of my son, and desire to see him the week I have him, isn't any of their concern... but if it's between this crap job and being there 7/14 days before and after school to stabilise my son's already messy life, it's an easy choice. But the government wants mothers with school age children to work and assist the economy. JUST SO FRIGGIN HARD to do without feeling like you're harming your child and having the guilt drive you insane.

Sorry, rant required, hopefully cessation of angry and disappointed tears and sleep will now ensue.

Oh I know that problem. I'm waiting for co-operate restructuring to split my office up into little pieces under the misguided idea that it will save money - which it will not. If you have 10 engineering offices, all doing the SAME work at the SAME time and constantly having to talk to one another to make sure everything gels properly are you going to spend more money or less than say a single office doing all the work easily applicable to 10 different business groups and all the specialist in the one room able to discuss things at the drop of a hat?

Accounts know only money, they aren't business people, they don't understand business structure (and it's debateable whether "business" people do either at times) and what they don't care about is how the money got on that prestine white page in the first place. Cutting people and doing the same amount of work with less people does not save money, it gets work done more slowly. If you cut work then cutting jobs is fine, but you also aren't making as much money then. There are laws, or at least there were a year or two ago, that dictated the standard working day and even PRIVATE companies had to follow them - I think it was 8-8.5 per day, public companies have a standard 7.6 hour day not really sure why. If work doesn't get done in standard hours it doesn't get done. In safety critical fields like medicine and engineering people understand working over time is a bad idea, however these hours shouldn't (and legally aren't or perhaps rather weren't) be limited to safety critical jobs.

I'm overflowed with work at the moment too. I'm doing 3 jobs because our office hasn't been given permission from accounting to employ new staff to the positions of the people we lost. I'm getting paid at what is considered to be a base level for engineers. I told my boss that unless they pay me at a higher rate the work that gets done in standard hours is the work that gets done - granted I can afford to do this because they won't fire me. But honestly there should be a law that states you can't fire someone for working the standard hours and not getting enough work done - rather than having to go through the courts for unfair dismissal. Yes it is hard economic times just means that we have to be careful about how we spend money rather than impulse buying. We need to budget yada-yada. It has nothing, nothing to do with working overhours and NOT GETTING PAID for it simply because a bunch of nerds in pinstripes and glasses figured the company will save money by doing the same amount of work with less people.

Ok I'll stop my rant there. I have strong views about how the upper echelons of companys always end up being made of people who are qualified accountants... However I'm sure I'd break a few board rules expressing them in a concise manner.

One of my managers actually used the line "working smarter with fewer" which is a great line and caused me to actually say out loud.."what a load of crap!"

And the effect of these changes on me and the people I'm leaving in the department I was working in... people are angry, feeling like no-one even understands the work they've been putting in already to meet the demands they're asking of us, and the department has a general air of "why bother". If you work harder, stay after hours, become more eficient with processes without managements help to actually get the work done, they think you need less people. People are now working those actual hours, not stressing themselves to go above and beyond, and very reluctant to do anything other than their job description. Nice.

When a complicated series of events culminate in an employee being unable to contact their place of employment the employer should:
    a) forgive the transgression as it is highly unlikely to happen again
    b) whack them with a bad behavior stick
    c) begin a process not unlike the one they use to dismiss employees

    Answer please?
