Discussion You Know You're a Fan Fiction Writer When...

I do this all the time

…when you dream about hanging out with characters at McDonald’s. Who knew Zeb liked French fries?
…when your dreams incorporate fanon

 

...when you sit down to write one thing and something utterly and completely different appears on the page.

 

...when you are taking this to the next level by seriously considering creating a disclaimer that reads: I am in no way responsible for this story... it's responsible for itself

 

When the fanfic tags you have to choose from include "fluff/mush", "horror", and "time travel"... but not "adventure". For Star Wars fanfiction.

 

Because action is preferred!

 

^ I mean... that's the only option for that kind of fic, and it's not exactly the same thing. Meanwhile we have tags for things like "angst" and "drama"...

I'm just saying. It's not really a big deal, but I can't help but find it weird and funny considering this is Star Wars fanfiction we're talking about.

YKYAFFWW you need to check your notes because you don't even remember all the challenges you signed up for AND re-read some stories you should've replied to in May, because even then you were in a hurry reading and now it's all like, "Huh?"

 

YKYAAFFWW you post in this thread so much, that you need to use an abbreviation.

 

When a character with only a minute's worth of screen time and two lines of dialogue suddenly makes you want to be a better writer and give her a worthy story.

When said character is making you second-guess your first draft and consider having a beta for the story. * crazy talk, I tell you*

 

...when sometimes you consider the writers on this thread better friends than most of your real ones... or at least, they understand you better

 

YKYAFFWW you need to remember which exact challenge your story was supposed to be the answer for because...it's been a while and you're still playing catch-up.

Get some writer friends, pronto! Best people ever. Or reader friends.

 

when clever titles pop into your head and you have to find a way to give them a voice.

 

YKYAFFWW your friend wants to be in your fic and since you already wanted to invent a character for her crush because you needed somebody who pick fights in stories, you're going to do that for her.
