In Where No Jedi Has Gone Before by my good buddy RK_Striker_JK_5, he recently posted a list - "You know you're reading a fic by RK_Striker_JK_5 when..."

So I couldn't resist. How do you know when you're reading a story by your favourite author? Got five reasons? Got ten? Got a hundred? Be serious or be funny about it - we laugh because it's funny and we laugh because it's true. However, on that note, you can shelve your flamethrowers right now. Authors, if you see your names in here, I'd encourage you not to take any of it personally.

Or, alternately: when a story's dead people outnumber its pages by a ratio of about 3,500:1.

You know you're reading a fic by Trickster_Jaina_Fel when...

1. You spend more on tissues than anything else because you cry throughout the whole thing.

2. It's Z/J.

You know you're reading a fic by -Tenel-Ka- when...

1. 'Snarky' is used-a lot.

2. You need flow charts to follow it on occasion.

 

You know you're reading a fic by Souderwan when:

1. You think that it's Matthew Stover writing it.
2. You think he should be published already.


For a more well known writer, you know you're reading a fic by Myri_Antilles when:

1. It has Rogue Sqaudron in it, no matter what.
2. It is funny when its really not supposed to be.

You find yourself drooling and the guy hasn't taken his shirt off yet

You find yourself crying and you haven't gotten to the angst yet

You find yourself converted to the 'ship just because she makes it so hilariously logical.

You hate the canon characters and think Galvin should have been at Yavin.

You fast-forward through the cave test in ESB, but you reread and reread and reread Kali's cave test in On the Shoulders of Giants.

All deaths are somehow dictated by his well-meaning beta (ME!) who just wants everyone to die.

 

You know you're reading a fic by solojones when you run across a 300-word section talking about Obi-Wan's favorite breakfast cereal . . . and somehow you find this interesting. Then you sit around with other users and discuss Obi-Wan's favorite breakfast cereal for the rest of the page.

Every installment must contain at least one (1) of the following: an obscure Biblical reference; and obscure film reference; an obscure song reference; the appearance of a reader as a soft-core pr0n star.

If you could copy and paste all the reader and author replies and do a search on the name "Ewan," you would find at least 5 instances per page.

 

this is a great idea, very cool idea. i can't think of any now, but maybe later! hehe.

Since I know I can't do humor without getting vicious, I think I'll stick to self-mocking instead.

1. Every other sentence begins with a conjunction.
2. There are only three words describing what the characters look like.
3. The summary was deliberately vague in an attempt to mislead you.
4. There's more technobabble than an episode of Star Trek.
5. You never see the OCs again. Ever.

1. You've never seen Vader look better anywhere else except from VaderLVR64.


You know you're reading a fanfic by DarthIshtar when...

1. The entire story sounds like it could be narrated by Denis Leary.

2. You have an inexplicable urge to be snarky after reading a post.

3. General Rieekan is God.

4. There is some reference to Alderaan at least once a post.

5. Leia is a very scary woman. But cool.

6. Somebody will be horribly mutilated and the injuries will be explained in great detail.

7. Han and Leia's banter leave you feeling that you have the IQ of a bean. And you will love it.

8. There is so much background material on Alderaanian culture you might think Tolkien reincarnated.

9. Did I mention General Rieekan was God?


You know you're reading a fanfic by ThePariah when...

1. You really like this fic, but you could see this sort of stuff done even better somewhere else.

2. You keep reaching for the dictionary or yawning repeatedly through giant paragraphs filled with eye-twitchingly florid prose.

3. Luke Skywalker will suffer traumatic emotional breakdowns at least 3 times in one standard planetary day.

4. It takes a dozen scenes, two chapters, and painfully extended internal monologues to get the characters from one place to another because the author must elaborate on how much trouble it was, what they had for breakfast, when they went to the bathroom, and how hard it is to decide on one damn thing.

- You've been turned into a semi-alcoholic beverage.

You know you're reading a 'fic by DarthIshtar when:

- A character whose name resembles your sock gets stabbed through the neck in a mushfic.
- A character whose name resembles your AIM login is a rather gifted sadist.
- Everybody dies. Again.
- You *want* to tell Kyp to duck... but you'd rather see him get food thrown at him by a pregnant woman.

You know you're reading a 'fic by padawan lunetta when:

- Pink lightsaber?
- It's Naboo... but strangely, you don't hate it.
- The author has a strange fascination with the Horn family.

You know you're reading a 'fic by talkingbananna when:

- The main character hasn't got a name, but you feel like you know him anyway.

 

Oh this is fun. I have some:

You know you are reading a fanfic by obi-ew when you find yourself weak in the knees. This is usually because a wonderfully written OC is struggling with the darkside, and although you know you shouldn't, you hope that he embraces it in all it's glory.

You know you are reading a fanfic by red_rose_knight when even the longest posts leave you wanting more because you are still lost in the imagery she created.

You know you are reading a fanfic by Jedikma because you wonder why you ever thought any other girl besides Siri was right for Obi-Wan.

You know you are reading a fanfic by dianethx because you look at what you have written and it pales in comparison.

Hmmm, I'll have to think of more.

When Captain Kirk meets Obi-Wan Kenobi in the afterlife and tells him to call him Jim.

You know you are reading LuvEwan when everyday language is transformed into something glorious and you are just stunned by its beauty.

You know you are reading jedikma when Siri kicks Obi-Wan's behind and he's happy about it.

You know you are reading red_rose_knight when you have finished an action sequence that leaves you breathless and you can't wait to tell all your friends about it.

You know you are reading Shaindl when the emotions of the characters are so perfectly balanced that your heart hurts.

Edit: I thought of some more plus speeling....

You know you are reading Knight_Aragorn because the language is just so stunning but the plot and the characters sing with color and life.

You know you are reading ithesock (sock of Princess_Arulmozhi) when you realize that she has written Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan a thousand times better than you ever could!

- You're giggling madly when Luke and Mara are on the verge of killing each other.

- Luke is wise and powerful without being indecisive or inactive. (In other words, he's IN CHARACTER!)

You can't help going "Awww..." at the end of a Ben scene.

Edit - And just for Sith and giggles, you know you're reading a fic by PadmeLeiaJaina when...

- You've never seen Threepio and Artoo so accurately portrayed in fanfic.

- The main character is a Solo kid other than Jaina.

- You come across witty and completely memorable word phrases "Anakin caught that train of thought..." (still remember that YEARS after reading it.)

- When your heart is in caught in your throat, you're gripping your chair, and you swear your hair is standing on end after riding along w/ Jerrica and Jacen in one of their podraces.
