    Merk, DS's first image is John Constantine, the Hellblazer.

    In one of the earlier stories, Constantine sets it up so two demons fight each other, because Constantine wanted to trick them and rescue his girlfriend's (it might have been his sister) soul. I'm sure the actual story was much more in-depth, but that's the summary from memory.

    He did that because he had terminal lung cancer and because he did that, he was able to essentially cheat death and then the story ended with Constantine giving both the finger.

    I just thought of a Dr. Strange story arc from the comics that would connect back to Thanos. It begins with the assassination attempt by Silver Dagger and culminates with Strange battling Death herself.
