You'd think they'd be able to pronounce each others names right...

Why is name pronunciation so inconsistant in Star Wars? Are the names that hard? Is everyone just too polite to correct each other?! :p

For instance, things that annoy me:

Leia as "Lee-uh" ... yeah, that's usually the way this name is pronounced I guess in RL, however she pronounces it "Lay-uh", and so when anyone says "Lee-uh" it seems out of place.

Han as in "Hand" ... *shudders* Not only is it wrong, but it just sounds stupid :p GL even pronounces it more this way I think! The name Hans is pronounced the way Harrison pronounces Han in ANH. Yet people throughout pronounce it differently.

Obi-Wan as "Obi-One" ... please note that 'Wan' is a distinct 'Wan' sound or 'Wahn' even but never 'One'. Yet everyone gets this one wrong :p

Any others you can think of? Am I the only one this annoys?

I hadn't noticed people pronouncing 'Coruscant' in really different ways... I know it was a big deal when it was just written but I don't think so in the movies. Personally, I always pronounced it 'Cur-uh-sant' which is pretty much the way they say it in the films.

I guess it's just all in the way people interpret one's name. Over the years with my last name I could count over 20 different ways it has been said. The only time mispronounced names have ever bothered me in SW was with Leia's name.

well, general dodanna said lee-uh.and sence it was the very first movie, myabe they just didn't bother to change it ;) it was funny when lando said haan [face_laugh] and I think the variation of obi-wan was just the way qui-gon pronoused it "obi-waan" (maybe sence he has a irish accsent in real life)

    that's my oppinion :)

Nobody ever gets my name right the first time. Their tricked by the light "o", or the heavy "e" at the end. It annoys me.

People's names are always subject to different ways of pronouncing.

I remember Coruscant sounding real weird the first time they said it in Ep1...I always pronounced it "Core-us-kant" because I remember hearing it pronounced that way in book-tape back in like 92. BIG shocker...but I've gotten used to it.

The names never bother me, because it's close enough to understand who they are speaking about.

Just one more to put out there...Alderaan?
is it long or short a in raan? ran? rawn?

And how about Qui-Gon's Tatooeine? weird.

    I pronounce Alderaan 'all-der-ran'
    and Corascant 'core-uh-saunt'

Have you ever noticed that some people (especially Lucas) pronounce Dooku as "Dohku." It really annoys me.

    padme as PADMAY

Actually, that pronounciation is correct. There should be an accent over the 'e', which turns the long 'e' sound into a long 'a' sound. So, Lucas was right with that name.
