Hey all. This is not intended in any way to conflict with Confrontation or Essence, and I don't expect it to. I'm working on a short (less than 2 minutes) fan film/effects test that's entirely computer graphics. I'm hoping to do the bulk of the work while UCD's on spring break, and the time's come to start involving other people. Basically, I need six people to record some dialogue...it'll help a great deal when I start editing. I decided to open the offer to SVRF first cuz I luv y'all.

The project's tentatively titled Tally Two, and I have a rough cut of the first 21 seconds available, including yours truly doing dialogue.

So...if you want to help out, all you need is a mike and your computer. The dialogue will involve some shouting, so make sure people around you know. Also, try to keep background noises to a minimum, other than your computer's hum: that actually enhances the effect I want, for some reason.

The parts are:
Checkmate (a tech on board a spaceship)
Viper Lead (X-Wing squadron commander)
Ghost Lead (B-Wing squadron commander)
Viper 1 (Lead's wingman)
Viper 2 (pilot)
Viper 3 (pilot)

Roles are first come first serve, though older people (ie. late teens and up) get preference for Checkmate and Viper Lead.

Also, I was thinking about changing the squadron name to subtly reflect on SVRF. All I could think up was King Squadron, but Viper is a whole lot cooler. Suggestions welcome.

 

I'd love to try out for a pilot. I'm 19.

Absolutely...that's what I envisioned for Ghost Lead and Viper Lead (though it looks like Mattes already got dibs on Viper). Checkmate was also originally older, though I figure it could be a young person as well.

 

Well, put me where you need. I am there! Just tell me what to do.

 

Yeah, care to give us some sample lines, so we can get a feel of what we're doing and you can make character adjustments?

Um, sure. It's fairly simple stuff, just fighter pilot jargon. Once roles are squared away, I'll send each person individualized character sketches (as in a description, not a drawing...) and some more details about what the things you're saying actually mean.

My DREAM would be to build actual X-Wing cockpit sets and film live-action, but that is WAY beyond my budget and scope of knowledge.

Anyways, here's a sample...the trick is posting stuff without giving too much away.

Viper Lead: "[SPOILER OMITTED]"
Viper 2: "Tallyho! Heads up!"
Viper 1: "Weapons free! Master arm on!"
Viper 3: "What the heck are THOSE?"
Checkmate: "Viper, this is Checkmate. Report! What's going on down there?"
Viper 1: "Checkmate, tally two bandits! [SPOILER OMITTED]"
Viper 2: "These things are slippery!"
Viper 3: "Got a lock! Get clear!"
Viper 1: "Roger, taking a split!"

So yeah, pretty vague, but it should make sense in the final video. Two things I should say:

1. X-Wing pilots have a low life expectancy. Notice Viper Lead has only one line. Put two and two together.

2. I wanted to put "Lock S-Foils in attack position!" in, but I accidentally rendered my first shot with S-Foils open, and it took FOREVER to render, so I cut that line. Sorry.

 

I would need to figure out the mic on my cpu, I've never used it before. but if I can I'm in.

 

Ok, since no one else has called it, I will take Ghost Leader.

Hm...I want a role, too. Prolly should have mentioned that. So if sacul figures out his mike, casting's closed.

Anyways, probably gonna improvise here and there, but if anyone's interested, these are the number of lines each part has:

V1: 7
V3: 6
V2: 5
CM: 4 (kinda misleading, since CM says at least as much as V3)
GL: 3
VL: 2

Hey I was just thinking...everyone except Checkmate are pilots, so they have their own call signs. Maybe you guys can pick your own call signs...like Hornet, or Maverick or something. Or would that be confusing? Just a thought.
