    I'm just going to drop this here, for educational purposes. I know you didn't intend to appropriate a culture with this thread, but "spirit animal" goes back a loooooooooooong time, and has pretty much nothing to do with what white people have done with the term.

    Saw a post on fb about using 'spirit animal' and decided to change it to spectral animal as I didn't mean to offend anyone. Coming here I also just saw @harpua 's post, so I wasn't ignoring your info either, just hadn't seen the post.

    Also, went to work at 5am this morning...

    As a Native American who does not practice any form of traditional Native religion, I did notice your usage of "spectral" instead of "spirit" and thought it was a nice way of saying that you weren't intending to appropriate anything truly sacred, but just kind of use the concept in a silly & fun way. Also, who doesn't love funny animal pictures? So, as a Native American, I support this thread and the witty use of the concept of "spectral animals." Of course, that might just mean that I'm the equivalent to that one black guy that supports Trump for some weird reason.
