Ang Lee. He'd direct a brilliant movie with everyone speaking Chinese but dubbed into Russian with Portuguese subtitles. It'll be the first movie to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

    Ha ha, dialogue be like...

"Hey, you hear about that Luke guy, some people call him Young Skywalker?"
"Yeah I think so, short right?"
"Well I wouldn't go so far as to call the brother short, but he definitely ain't no Stormtrooper"
    "What about him?"
"Well word around the campfire is, Lord Vader ****ed his ass up good!"
    "For real?"
"The real deal. He went over to that Cloud City place, Vader was waitin', told him he was his daddy"
    "Oh man"
"Took his hand clean off. Window over a reactor shaft, mother****er fell through that!"

Funny, I was just about to mention Tarantino. He'd make a wild Star Wars movie.

I was just wondering if we're going to end up going down the Marvel route of hiring admittedly talented up and coming directors who aren't as established as say Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg etc. I'd love to see what an auteur would do with the franchise rather than looking at Marvel-type cheaper option. Imagine Luc Besson, Ridley Scott or James Cameron let loose in this universe.

    Eh.
The problem with A list directors is... they arn't hungry. I'm not saying they are past their prime, but...

Also a lot of these guys already made Star Wars movies
    Luc Besson - 5th Element
    Ridly Scott - Alien
    Cameron - Avatar
    Spielburg - Close Encounters

    Point is
A: Auteurs don't usually want to play around in other people's universes.
B: I would have loved to see what any of these guys would have done in the late 70's early 80's but now your looking for Scott's "Alien" but you're going to get "Prometheus"

I say let these guys make Biopics of presidents. Let the young guns work on the new stuff.[face_dunno]
    Your opinion may differ...

I'm in agreement. Take young, hungry directors and give them these movies; let these films turn them into the new A-listers, or at the very least help that process along. More than seeing older, A-list directors, I'd like to see them bring in women and PoC directors for different perspectives than we've had so far.

None of those people you mention are currently in their prime. That's not to say I wouldn't love to see a SW film directed by all of those people, especially Spielberg. I would!

But, the trick is to catch a younger filmmaker as they are in their prime or entering their prime. Miller and Lord are an example of guys who are just in their prime right now.

Has anyone from LFL approached Cuaron yet? If not, they're crazy. Do it now before the series gets too entrenched/ normalized. He's more likely to be interested in the early days, when Star Wars still feels fresh.
