The Michael Bay Star Wars would be a glorious thing.
Giant robots stomping and smashing thru Coruscant.
Megan Fox as a super hot Queen or Princess or.. face it it doesn't matter what she is.
Will Smith as a wise crackin' Jedi chasing down sleazy spice smugglers.
    Cool teenage mutant skateboarding Gamorians.
And explosions! Man, spaceships and planets going kablooee all over the place.

I do, genuinely, want to see this.

Alex Garland would be interesting. Strong screen writer, fantastic debut as a directer.

Wheedon, I agree, does characters/humour well but technically/visually he's not that interesting. Character wise he could suit Han Solo.(Lord and Miller are the best choice though)

I think Joss Wheden has really struggled to make the jump from television to cinema. The first Avengers film is tremendously un-cinematic. AOU was a bit of an improvement.

how about, James Mangold he directed some pretty good stuff, Walk The Line was excellent, 3:10 To Yuma was really good I loved his Wolverine films and I never saw Girl Interrupted with Winona Ryder and Whoopi Goldberg but It looks great! back in the day I saw Copland with my mom in the theater we really liked that as well!

    Miguel Sapochnik

He has directed arguably some of the best television episodes in the history of television (e.g. Hardhome, Battle of the Bastards in GoT) and is more than ready to take on a SW anthology.

Coen Bros - a farm boy on Tatooine who pretty much stays a farm boy. Gets in trouble with the Law and local gangsters and Sand People.

Edgar Wright - gets the Boba movie. Gets kicked off for Creative differences.

Neil Blomkamp - the IG88 movie

Del Toro - Prequel style Sith and Witch movie.

Zemeckis - some slightly creepy 3D animation about a kid who doesn't believe in Life Day.

Ang Lee - a kid is trapped in an escape pod with a Rathar. Somehow this is proof of the existence of God.

Sam Mendes - Poe Dameron infiltrates the New Order wearing a nice suit.

Kathryn Bigelow - Rogue Two. War is Heck.

Fincher - the Palpatine-Plaguis movie. The sick twisted truth of what the Sith do behind closed doors.

Plenty of opportunity for stories about Delusional Egos in the Star Wars Universe.

Ahhhh.... A squad of Stormtroopers with a prim righteous officer in charge find themselves abandoned on Endor, trying to get down a Amazonian river on a raft as Ewoks follow them along the shore. Things get dark and cannibalistic.

The Wachowskis - If someone else wrote the screenplay to rein them in a bit, their visual sensibilities could work fantastically with Star Wars (that's the what if for Jupiter Ascending).

Fincher, Paul Thomas Anderson or the Coens would be dream directors for me, but might bring a tonal departure, so I'm not sure what I'd want them to do.
