I want to run a hypothetical situation by everybody, and I hope most people are game for throwing in their two cents...

Over time, and after seeing all the top fanfilms to date, I've often thought about a hypothetical "ultimate fan film" where you take the strengths of the better fanfilms and the saving graces of the not so good films and combine them for one film.

Here's the question. Let's say that you're suddenly granted the opportunity to take all of your favorite fanfilm elements, all from currently finished and released fanfilms, and make your ultimate fanfilm by the grace of God, the Force, a genie, or whatever higher power you prefer. Be it writers, actors, crewmembers, plotlines, characters, whatever. You can assume any role in the production process that you want. However, you don't have to. You don't have to direct it, you don't have to write it...let's just say you're the executive producer at the very least. So what would you do for your fanfilm?

You don't have to write an essay, but a least cover most of the bases. Who would direct, who would be in it, and who would handle your effects. Feel free to make it interesting by getting into who would handle what type of role (action vs. acting, for example). I think there are a lot of instances where an actor's subpar performance may have been a result of a poor casting decision. Here's a chance to discuss some untapped potential.

Hmmm. Kinda like a fantasy football team, only it's a fantasy fanfilm?

Director - Me. Who else? :p
    Writer - Michael Scott
Cinematographer - Whoever did the same thing on "Deception of the Force."
Fight Coordinators - The Ho Brothers

Main Cast - Clay Kronke, Ryan Wieber, Niobe Dean, and a CGI Yoda

Supporting Cast - The 501st, Rebel Legion and The Jedi Assembly

    Best Boy - George Lucas

    Grip - Rick McCallum

My Personal Assistant - Keira Knightly

My 2nd Assistant - Natlie Portman

It's my world, you can't have it. ;)

I would have Nick Hallam direct, I would probably be the producer, the Ho brothers and Ryan-W for choreography. Ryan would also be rotoscoping. Zap for animaton, Spiff for artwork, Rory Cejas and Niobe Dean for main characters, and to top it off 30 stormtroopers from the 501st with Chris Brennan as Vader with Ben Fletcher providing the voice. With that I think the fanfilm to end all fanfilms could be made.

For Funk-E: My writer would be the Revelations writers.

    You didn't mention a writer.

Fanfilms don't need a plot, Funk-E! It's all improv, like the old SNL, you silly goose! :p

I pretty much like the cast I have now, but for a different film, I would like to have: Me, Ryan Wieber and two lightsabers.

That could be a fun film.

    The old SNL?

It was really, really good...or really, really bad.

    But not improv.

EDIT: I understand that it looks like I don't get your joke. I do get it. I just felt like making you feel bad. Neener neener.

    This is pretty funny!

I guess I would like to have:

    Writer: Dorkman
    Directing: John Fiorella
    Editing: Myself
Acting: Clay Kronke, Scott Zeir, John Fiorella...maybe some more.
    Choreography: HO Brothers for sure!
Effects: Ryan Wieber, Zap, and Durb.
    Producer: Someone with some money!

    Good question.....I hope I didn't offend anyone.

No offense to Mike, but I've never anything he's written. Where are you guys getting off jumping to him as a writer? I'd rather get someone I know can write, like the Hanel + Phelan team.

    Hm..

I'd write and direct.. Clay and I would probably split the effects work. Might have RyanW on board as a VFX consultant, he's a rather inventive chap. Possibly H Gibbens and Tom Sehenuk as modelers & maybe as animators. Clay would edit. Clay and I would do sound design.

Fairly small crew, in all.. cast would probably include The BA cast, Doria Anselmo, Michelle O'Keefe, Dave Macomber. Maybe Clay, although I think I'd find his behind-the-camera services more valuable. I'd only act in it if I remembered to write a part for myself, something I don't usually do in my scripts.

Anyway..I'd like to direct. Maybe co-direct with someone who has a more technical eye than I do. I'd grab Zap for 3D work, probably Jedi2016, too. Fig and Dorkman for 2D stuff, just to watch them fight. As for a cast..I can't think of who'd work in my film, really. There aren't any impassive waifs out there in any fanfilms I've seen, (Fig sez: What about Chris?) and I'd need at least one for the film I want to make. I'd keep Ryan around in a giant glass jar with a twig and a few blades of grass. And also, Jane Fonda was there.

I assume you mean never READ anything I've written.

I'd like to point out that we are on a text-based message board.

    That is all.

Nice catch, I'll take that one in stride. I assumed you'd ignore the obvious fact, though.

    You know what I meant.

For the record, I only busted out the spice weasel there because it had to be said. I've actually been cool with Fig lately (which is probably news to him) and would have laid the semantic smackdown on that statement regardless of who made it.

Anyway, as for my dream team, I could tell you, but you might as well just read the credits when it comes out. ;)

I forgot Hannel, He would for sure be in the cast.

I think Fig's jealous he is not in the dream cast lists yet.

I didn't care if I was or not, I was making a point. I don't really have a particulary affinity for fanfilms anymore.

But for the record, I am on a dream team. Two.

And, Mike, I know you woulda made that comment to anyone, and I've noticed a subtle easing up on your behalf.
