really, really want to see Only Lovers Left Alive,

but I loved Grand Budapest and Under the Skin

 

You know it's been a weak year for movies when #2 on your top-5 is 300: Rise of an Empire. #1 is Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Heck, I don't even think I can make a top-5, as only 22 Jump Street and Edge of Tomorrow have gotten passing grades from me (each garnering a borderline 7/10).

Wow, We Are the Best is your favorite movie so far! I thought it was pretty mediocre, myself. If you're so inclined, talk a bit about why it worked so well for you.

I keep a perpetually running top ten, but I include all movies I see in a calendar year, not just movies that have come out in that year. Plus, my local arthouse theater gets a lot of films late, so a lot of the foreign films I don't get to see until the year after they come out. But here's my top ten of movies I've seen this year.

I think only The Hornet's Nest, The Raid 2 & Tim's Vermeer are actually 2014 films. I think The Broken Circle Breakdown and The Wind Rises were both 2013 and of course Her was 2013. After that, they start getting substantially older. I watch the classics a lot.

 

Oldboy remake may be the worst movie I have ever seen.

 

Yeah, I am, of course, talking about the original. Hopefully, that's evident by the simple fact that it's on my top ten list. It's the only one of my top ten that I didn't see in theaters.

Cap 2, Edge of Tomorrow, X-Men DoFP, How to Train Your Dragon 2. I have high hopes for Guardians of the Galaxy and The Hobbit. And Planes 2.

 

I think The LEGO Movie and Captain America 2 are the only 2014 movies I've seen so far.
