What is your favorite war movie ("war movie" here being defined as a movie that takes place during a war)? If you clicked 'other,' tell us what it is.

    Saving Private Ryan

However, I haven't seen Schindler's List yet. :( Still, Saving really impacted me when I saw it - very well made film.

If fantasy wars aren't counted (Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings for example), my favourite war movie is Saving Private Ryan.

I'm torn between The Patriot and Pearl Harbor. But the latter got my vote.

Pearl Harbor and Casablanca are definitely not war movies; they're romances with a war as a backdrop. Schindler's List is also not a war movie.

Band of Brothers is a miniseries, but I picked that anyway. :p Flags of Our Fathers is also pretty damn good. All Quiet on the Western Front(1930 version) should also be mentioned.

Saving Private Ryan.... it's just so well done i cant help but still be amazed by it.

Other honorable mentions are: Black Hawk Down, We Were Soldiers, Apocalypse Now.

For me Schindler's list and Gone With the Wind dont really seem like war movies, but more like war dramas. I LOVE both though :)

The Director's Cut is much, much better than the theatrical release.

My fave? Hmmm... probably Apocalypse Now, but the DC of Kingdom of Heaven is up there, as is Platoon and Braveheart.

Any one of those could get my vote.

I actually really liked the theatrical version when I first saw it but yeah if you're going to watch it, I highly recommend you watch the director's cut.
