"You must un-learn what you have learned!"

All were great but that was favorite one.

Classic Zen Master and Learned University Professor Tea Cup story of close-mindedness...

"Like this cup, you are full of your own opinions and speculations. If you do not first empty your cup, how can you taste my cup of tea?" the lesson---is your cup half empty or half full?

Sifu Bruce Lee said "Open your mind. Be formless, shapeless..."

I've been bummed out by Yoda's lack of quotable lines from the PT so far. :(

His line to Obi-Wan about losing a planet was cute. Apparently Yoda's only funny when he's around learners. ;)

My favorite Yoda line comes in when Yoda whacks R2 with that stick and screams, "Mine! MINE!!!!" I still find that hilarious after 100+ viewings of my favorite member of the OT.

Yoda's Force speech to Luke right before he lifts the X-Wing is *the* best.

My sig is one of my favorites of the more silly lines he says.

I'm not bummed out by Yoda's qoutes in the prequels. Granted he doesn't have much in TPM - he wasn't in TPM much.

His fear speech to young Anakin is the biggest out of TPM.

"Your apprentice Skywalker will be" is another good one.

    AOTC gives us more:

The one that had me laughing so hard I cried (which was a shame I spent my the first half of my first viewing of the battle of Geonosis wiping tears of laughter from my eyes. -> "Around the survivors a perimeter create."

"Lost a planet Master Obi-Wan has. How embarassing. How embarassing."

"Dangerous and disturbing this puzzle is."

The last words spoken in AOTC, Yoda saying the Clone Wars have begun.

And of course "Much to learn you still have."

My least favorite movie for Yoda qoutes is ROTJ. Because he dies. And what's to qoute about that. :( At least we see his spirit at the end. That makes up for it.

My favorite -- by FAR -- is the wonderfully cryptic and protentous line that should have (but didn't) amount to anything...

"If you leave now, help them you could, but you will destroy all for which they have fought and suffered."

    Didn't happen.

"Do or do not, there is no try"

    "That is why you fail"

"Hmph! Adventure. Heh! Excitement. Heh! A Jedi craves not these things. You are reckless!"

"Always in motion is the future."

    and my personal favorite...

"You must unlearn what you have learned."

I agree Macrea. I've often wondered what the aged Jedi genius meant by that too!Could it have been that:
    a) Luke might die.
    b) Luke was the reason they had fought and suffered. Ie, being a Jedi, the galaxy's only hope etc. (apart from Leia of course)

    The best quote; The ONLY quote worthy of the master is;

"You will know, when you are calm; At peace..."

Truer words have never been spoken.

    First to macrea...

The line you mention is cryptic but true From a certain POV...
...see, Leia and Han were trying to protect Luke from being taken/harmed by Vader, and he nearly was (lost his hand and all), and Luke did suffer a lot both physicaly and emotionaly because he found out that the one that betrayed and murdered his father was in fact the same person (Vader).

As to my favority line. I like all that Yoda says, specialy the "do or do not, there is no try"
This one a long time have I watch, he looked away to the, future. Never his mind on where, (pokes) he (pokes) was, what he was doing.

Yoda may speak backwards, but he doesn't speak in riddles. If he wanted Luke to know that he might die himself, he would have said so. The thing for which Luke's friends have fought and suffered was freedom, and at the time it seemed that somehow the fight against the Empire itself was going to be jeopardized by Luke going. Now I am of the opinion that it was just put in because it sounded good.

And don't give me that 'certain point of view' stuff. The biggest cop-out line of dialogue in cinematic history.

    I'd have to say:

    "That is why you fail."

and to Dooku in the hangar:

"Powerful you have become, the darkside I sense in you."

The way he says that is great IMO.

This is mine. I know it's been mentioned already, but it's so great it deserves another mention

Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere. Yes, even between the land and the ship.

I enjoyed how immature he was. Therefore I liked:

    "Mine! Mine!"
and "Mine! Or I will help you not."
and "Awwww..cannot get your ship out...reeheheehehe"
and of course: "You will will be..."

Here are my favorite overall Yoda quotes:

"Looking? Found someone you have I would say, hmm?"

"Oh, Father. Powerful Jedi was he. Powerful Jedi."

"When 900 years old you reach, look as good, you will not."

"Do not underestimate the powers of the Emperor or suffer your father's fate you will."

"Truly wonderful the mind of a child is."

"Lost a planet, Master Obi Wan has. How embarassing, how embarassing."

    LUKE: I don't... I don't believe it.

YODA: That is why you fail.

    Nothing describes "The Force" better.
