Exactly Miss Aalya, in fact, almost as annoying as the people who want to put them under all the same catergory and assume we all want to be vampires/avoid sunlight/smoke clove cigarrettes.

Couldn't be further from the truth.

Well my experience with Goths goes to when all may mates in High School were of that persuasion, but They were slightly above the "teenie goth" level, they just liked the decadent and darkly beautiful stuff in life.

For some thing they read a lot of Oscar Wilde stuff, but I don't know why!!!

They only wore makeup for fun like at the ball when one dressed like the Count from Sesame st.
Other than that they just wore black and liked skeses!

Wow, it's amazing how worked up people can get over a joke. The whole ;) notwithstanding and all.

So what is "Gothic" culture, besides wearing black and dark colours? :p

What the hell is a 'real' gothic ideal?

Sith just said he likes to wear black and look at hot chicks in tight stuff.. how is that a gothic ideal?! :p

There wasn't any " ;) " when you posted that pic Ender.

There's plenty of info on the Gothic subculture out there if you look, and it varies from city to city.

But the common theme seems to be one of acceptance for who and what you are, without anyone having to think a certain way, wear a certain brand, or otherwise conform to what people expect you to be, rather than what you are yourself.

In a nutshell, that's about it.

And anyone saying it's just a bunch of people who wear black and listen to depressing music has never taken any more than a passing glance at it.

What the hell is a 'real' gothic ideal?

Sith just said he likes to wear black and look at hot chicks in tight stuff.. how is that a gothic ideal?!

Well, that was a very tongue in cheek post, but do you have any idea how many models I've gotten to know in the "scene"?

    Quite a lot...

Ok, it helps I'm engaged to a fashion designer and I'm currently organising a massive fashion parade for a festival in September, but it's still true.

Indeed. People don't like to be categorised most of the time.

But by the same token any subculture will embody those values because by their nature - being separate from the mainstream culture - they are "outcasts" and will accept anyone who'll join them on the provision it's reciprocal. Emo kids are the exact same, so are metal heads, wargamers/RPG'ers, etc.

Maybe it's the whole "wear black" and read "literature" stereotype I know, but I'll keep my colours and my tan, cheers! ;)

And if you're upset about the picture, email Maddox. I'm sure he'll be understanding about it... [face_mischief]

Again, you're basing what you know from kids who hang around in malls, (Yes, I know you're in Taiwan, but I'll assume you've been in a mall at some point) and the whole point is you can go ahead and wear whatever colours you like and get tanned crispy fried for all I care.

The difference? I won't judge you based on what you wear and how tanned you are.

And if you're upset about the picture, email Maddox. I'm sure he'll be understanding about it...

If he's taken the time to vent his hatred by making a stupid picture like that, I'll assume he has bigger problems than me not liking what he does.

Lets all have a hug now!

I think I just used the worth goth to describe my High school mates, but I think they like to feel like they don't belong to a group, and are rather individual!

Most folks you would describe as Goths are very individual and unique people that despise mainstream in most cases- but then you have those who like Star Wars etc......
So I suppose there are no real rules or "real" ideal.

"Lets all have a hug now! "

Johnno's got the right idea. This thread is about man-love and/or Angelina. Let's keep it that way.

Also, who voted for Cher?? I mean, really...

And no votes for Russ yet? curious...

I think it's group hug time!

Sith Magician, I know its annoying when people pay out on aspects of your personality, but you need to stop taking them seriously. Who cares what other people think? As long as you're true to yourself.

If people call me a "geek" I just laugh and say, "So?" :)
