Yeah the biggest problem that I have with my opening scene is that Finn is not wearing TIE pilot armor when we see him.

So either he doesn't fly a TIE fighter at all, or he changed clothes lol

He could defect as a Stormtroopers while aboard a Star Destroyer and just steal one of the Tie Fighters to make an escape?

I have been in light aircraft before and often wondered how scary it would be if anything happened to the pilot and I was left in control. I don't think that I would like to steal a TIE fighter, fly it through space, into the atmosphere of a planet and then try to land it.

I'm so cool that I've thought about being in a Star Wars ship when taking off in an airplane. If I was 10 that would be fine, but as someone who's married and in their late 30's... LOL

Alright I'll give it a shot: We pan down to Tatooine (although at a different angle than ANH so it's not a complete rip off of that opening) and suddenly a single TIE fighter races toward the planet at great speed. It's followed by an enormous Star Destroyer which releases a dozen more fighters from its underside hanger. For a moment we wonder who exactly the Imperials are after until the squadron begins firing lasers and we realize it's the single TIE they're after.

We move inside the cockpit of the TIE where we find Finn at the controls struggling to keep the fighter in flight as lasers strike the ship from all angles. It's a losing battle and suddenly the fighter starts to spin wildly out of control. We follow the fighter all the way through the atmosphere of the planet and further as the surface rushes up at us inexorably through the cockpit window. All the while Finn desperately tries to regain control of the ship but it's too late, there's impact, and everything goes black.

This sounds very plausible to me. I wasn't keen on the OPs two ideas, but I can pretty much see this in my mind's eye already.

Hoth Wampa's arm then after a brief pause. Or maybe it could just be that all the severed hands, arms and other body parts have coalesced together in the vacuum of space to form some strange planetoid, complete with Dooku's head as a small moon.
