Well, mine's nearly done. I used a chrome-plated brass sinkpipe that I cut at a diagonal. And it isn't sharp, either. Before that, I attached a D-ring at the other end. It actually took longer to drill the holes in than it did to cut the diagonal. And Dad and I managed to break a drill bit doing it, too. [face_laugh] This evening, I used some kind of welding glue to attach a stainless steel (or chrome?) drawer handle to the end of the pipe near the D-ring. Now I just have to see if it will hold.

The only thing I have left to do is put the grips on. I decided not to use leather. I have numerous scraps of black fabric laying around from a cloak I made, so I'm going the cheap route. But I need a design first...

I finally started my first lightsaber. So far, it's just a sink pipe and a Nu-Seal Washer. Im hoping to fashion a rubber grip and place a few washers on it, as well as a few more buttons/doodads.

I finished my first lightsaber today. Or almost. I still need to glue the rings and the end in place. http://www.starwarsdotcom.com/miba/lightsaber1.jpg and http://www.starwarsdotcom.com/miba/lightsaber2.jpg I don't like the end very much, but it'll do I guess since I can't seem to find anything else that would do. I used a sinkpipe for the handle, the grip I cut from a black plastic sink pipe, and the end is a shower handle I cut down. I'm not entirely happy with this saber, and I'm not quite sure why.

...overall I think I'll stick to sewing, I'm better at that.

I'm not done yet. I still need to add some detail/buttons/emitter but the main body of my lightsaber can be seen here. You have to scroll to the bottom.

The Hardware Store Jedi project, phase 2, is in full effect mode. I just got my "practice sabers" from Random Sabers that I will be building on. These are actually not stock, but were scaled down per my specifications. Rather than a 1 1/4" tube, I opted for a 1" tube. The length is 9.5" rather than 11". The resulting modifications mean that this time I won't be hauling around "wookiee sabres" as one wag here called 'em, but something a bit more to scale with my height and hand size.

Here's some pics of the "naked sabres" (Safe for work! ^_^ )

    [image=http://www.msgeek.com/graphics-a-gogo/sabres_v2/nakedsabres.jpg]

    [image=http://www.msgeek.com/graphics-a-gogo/sabres_v2/oldandnew.jpg]

Note the size of the original (v.1) version, and the size of the blanks for the new version. Also, the photos don't do the acrylic blades justice...they are beautiful translucent blue.

This is going to be fun.

It's done. Now I have a few things left to do:

    1.) Write the narration.
2.) Find royalty-free production music for background music.
    3.) Edit.
    4.) Add background music.
    5.) Narrate.
    6.) Upload finished v2.0 tutorial to Archive.Org as a low-fi QuickTime movie.
7.) Do chopped-up version for YouTube.
8.) Upload chopped-up version to YouTube and make a playlist so that people can watch the pieces in sequence.

Of course, my school work has to fit in there somewhere. And also a little something called living my life...

Anyway, here's my entry on my blog. There's a link on that page to a few stills of the new set of "twins" on Flickr. Enjoy.

I'll keep y'all posted on updates.

Here's a few shots of my work-in-progress customized FX saber. This started as a stock MR Vader ESB. First, I switched the blade out for a blue one. The shroud got broken at a party soon afterward, and so I decided to just build a custom hilt out of what was left instead of restoring it or doing an Ani AOTC conversion, as many suggested. At any rate, I've still got a ways to go, but here it is so far, looking less and less Vader-esque evry day.

I really needed a saber... so I decided to build this one...Once I get a Dremmel tool, I will be able to to do a lot more to it...and I need to change the LED color scheme but other than that, this is what mind looks like. I tried to find info from the big yellow box, but I wasn't able to pull up anything other than the 1st design.

The Emmitter was made from a cap for a pipe at the that I turned upside down so that the threads would show, and then used a pipe flange for the top. Inside the flange is a sink aerator that I bought at the .99 store broke off the bottom of it and glued inside. The "activation matrix" box with the LEDs was made from some scrap parts that I found at work along with some LED's that I still have to buy a card for to make them work. that should be done at some point at a later date.

Very Cool! I like the design of the U shaped saber. As far as Lowes, they seem to have more than home depot. At least the ones that I went to

Hapa: I dig the unique design, MAJOR props on a new saber design! Still, I have no idea how these would be used "in battle". Bigger pics and maybe a video would be most welcome, and I'm sure, draw more of a response.

Well, this one I actually finished back in August, and did post it on other forums, but never got around to posting here. Many of you may have already seen it, so this is for those that haven't.

Details: satin black annodized finish; 5-watt royal blue LED powered by buckpuck driver and 7.2v li-ion pack; EL powered with EL driver and 9v battery.

Here are just a couple pics:

I give major props to HardwareStoreJedi (I dig the blades and the nice hilts), and HanaJedi (I've never seen that design before; link when you have a video of them in action plz!)

I'm working on a regular one right now, and a unique one...anyone know of Squall's Gunblade from Final Fantasy VII? I wanna do that with a blaster and a lightsaber.

Home Depot apparently doesn't carry my aluminum tubing...at least, not online....
I'll make a run tomorrow; all hardware store websites suck.

Wadaya think---aluminum tubing, or 3/4" dowel? I need these babies to take a beating. xP

I had a similar idea, well the exact same idea, even sketched out a design. Then saw the Zerosuit Samus Lightsaber thing and it was exactly my sketch. I'm still pursuing this idea but it is thwarting my attempts.

I'd say dowel. Aluminum could severely injure someone. You might break dowels more often but they certainly won't hurt as much if you whack someone in the head or on a knuckle.

Well now. I was just looking for this thread and up it pops to the first page. Finished a new design to make use of the last piece of aluminum I have lying around here. Gonna machine it tomorrow. Will only hold a dowel as I don't have the income to make another Lux.

This is only going to be a maximum of 7 inches long so it'll be one of very few single handed lightsabers. At least that I've seen.
