Someone posted a thread on another board I frequent asking what your top 30 fictional characters of all time are. This can include film, literature, television, comics... anything. Just wondering what some of your picks would be.

    Yikes, hard to choose here.

When I was young I really liked a character named Flinx (Philip Lynx) from a series of Alan Dean Foster's books.

Forgetting about SW, my top fictional character would have to be Raistlin from Dragonlance. He's such a contradiction and a complicated character full of pain and torment.

Well, here's my list, in no particular order (complete with reasoning!):

Frodo Baggins - The Lord of the Rings
While certainly not the most spectacular or even the most exciting, Frodo is probably the most remarkable of the characters. Thrown into the role of being the hero, whereas he's reluctant to bear the burden, Frodo emulates not so much the sword swinging Aragorn or the arrow aiming Legolas, but rather that of a hero that seems more human (if you'll pardon the lack of literative truth). He's like the normal person, a little unsure, but at the same time, a hero. Of course, he suffers the consequences of his decisions.

Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker - Star Wars
If this isn't one of the most brilliant sagas of a person, I don't know what is. The circle is full, and in my opinion, is one of the most well developed characters to grace film. Amazing, philosophical, hero, villain. What a great circle of good vs. evil for one person.

    Indiana Jones - Indiana Jones
Just the great All-American hero, the answer to James Bond. Fun, suave, heroic, the perfect fictional hero for all times.

    Ethan Edwards - The Searchers
John Wayne's best role, the antihero. Racist, a bigot, opinionated, angry. With his Odyssey-like plight for vengeance, this character is taken to all extremes. The loner, unable to progress with a welcoming society...absolutely great characterization.

    Michael Corleone - The Godfather
A fall from grace like none other. This character is shown in the many "faces" of Michael, young, naive and hopeful in the first installment we see him turn into a darker character, brooding, hardened, and angry. Absolutely great character-- neither hero nor villain in the audience's eyes, but a great character.

I have a lot more, but I think that's enough for a first post.
