    Hi guys.

I'm posting this topic even though the subject of it is some way off yet, because i need a bit of help.

Some of the English members here and possibly some of the other Euro members may be aware of a bar in London called "Pages".

Pages is a London venue for Sci Fi nights, events, and autograph signings etc. They also show Sci Fi on a large projecter screen in the bar.

I recently had the idea of a Star Wars fan film night at the bar. This would be In the run up to the opening of Episode III.

The good news is i just had an e-mail back from the bars owner saying they are interested and they feel it would be a good night. Also we may tie it in to some sort of fund raising/charity night. Something i've seen done at pages in the past. We had a collection for 9/11 during the Star Trek Enterprise pilot screening.

My main reason for posting is to see if there is some sort of protocol i should be carrying out before screening some of your work? And also to announce the night to UK or european members, or anybody interested.

I think it could be a great night, please let me know what i should do regarding screening fan films. And please share with me your thoughts on the project. This will not be a profit making venture at all. No entry fee's or anything.

It's very early days in the organisation of this whole thing, and of course it may not happen at all depending on what i hear here in this thread. I do not yet have a line up of movies. But i'll hopefully be putting together a DVD full of the best SW fan films for the bar to screen on the night hopefully with episode III trailers inbetween. This will probably take place in London in April/May 2005. :)

Contact the creators of the movie you want to show. I'm sure they'd love for you to show it, but you have to contact them first and make sure.

Too bad I'm not in london, I'd go to this thing if I were.

My view? London's too far away. Hold it in Seattle. :D

I can be in London in about 2 hours. I don't know how long it wold take to travel to Seattle. Several hours I presume. I live in Sweden. :)

Anyway... As Nitro said. Contact the makers of the films you want to show. Maybe they can send you copies with better quality than the online versions.

    Thanks guys.

I'll certainly be contacting the film makers following your advice. And i hadnt considered requesting higher standard copies of the featured films. Thats a great idea.

I'll be putting a topic in here nearer the time. And it would be great to see some people from these forums there, if there are any Brits or near by European members interested in attending.

I was so pleased it looks like this night will go ahead i had to post it, and i also got the advice i needed.

    Cheers.

If it goes ahead, i'd love to come and see it. its about a 3 hour drive for me (midlands) although at the time it will be hosted it will change to a 5 hour drive. i would still come down to see it, esspecially if more people from here came, so we could all have a get togeather. I'd also bet that there would be an interest from the rest of the Inside report team.

I can't say i would deffinently come down to see it. but if it goes a head, you get some good films and i finish mine, i'll try my best to get down there.

If there is anything that we on the board can do to help, please, ask away.

Thanks, and it would be great to meet you and any others from the boards.

I'll certainly be posting and i'm sure requesting more advice on this event as things progress. :)

I cannot see anything cropping up to stop this event taking place. The owner has expressed a keen interest, he's a very approachable man, and will go a long way to entertain a sci fi audience at the bar. He's asked me to contact him around 3 months prior to the night with some firm details.

here's some links to some pictures of the bar. Where the screenings will take place.

Huh! I live near Hannover (Northern Germany) and I can get to London by plane within 1 or 2 hours, and I guess they offer it for only 20 euros or so :)

Well, whatever, I´m planing on doing an EP2~EP3 related fanfilm and I hope I can release it before Ep3´s release... I would prolly offer it to you to show it, if you want!
    :)

    EDIT:

hey Anth, I just looked at your pics and thought:

"When I first read what you wrote about this bar, I was sure it had to look like the casino aboard the enterprise" - and I was kind of right!

Being newish to the fanfilm making part of life, I couldn't help on that, however I'd be very interested in attending. I live a couple of hours away by both train and rail. :D

I'd love to come. In Northern Ireland, but who knows where I'll be by then, either way, lots of friends who I can stay with in London.

Check out my sig for our movies.

I'm in Devon so i might come. it would be nice if a fan film night could hold its own rather than being an epIII tag on, i mean you've had an entire convention for fan films ;)

Judging by the response at this early stage from you guys, i'm sure it's going to be a success.

And i'm sure if it is and we attract a large crowd we'll have a good chance of making this an annual event. :)

I anticipated people may want to travel a long way to attend, i myself have a 2 hour journey to get there. So i am going to go for a 6.00pm start ( bar opens at 5.00pm)And run right through to maybe 11.00pm or midnight with 20 or 30 minute breaks between films. I think this will make it worthwhile attending, rather than some brief thing. And will allow late arrivals a chance too.

It's quite a large screen at pages, on a raised section of the bar. With about 10 tables on that section. And other seating in other areas. And about half a dozen other smaller TV's showing what's on the big screen ( 3 behind the bar, so you don't miss a thing while ordering drinks! *L* the Soundtrack is piped into the toilets too!)

The bar is located in a good place, just out enough to be in a quiet part of London, but only 10 minutes away from Victoria station. But i'm sure we could all meet up in the day? Maybe go to some places like Forbidden Planet before the event?

If i can gather some sort of list of TFN'ers attending then i may be able to reserve us all the best seats! hehe.

    RIPLEY426
The offer of the film sounds great.:) Keep me updated on it please. Either on this forum or maybe we can exchange e-mails.

    Ripper:
You and i know that fanfilms can hold there own. But i had to sell this idea to the bar's owner the best way i could. I'm confident that when he see's the response to this night we'll have no problems securing a SW fan film night every year at this venue. But for this one i took advantage of the sure to be hype surrounding Ep3 to give myself an added chance securing the event. :)

Are there any age limits in this bar? I know some bars are 21+ and being 13 Id still wanna come. Id try and get some people from UK fan films to come a possibly give a talk. Id come (depending on the night) if it was on a saturday Id do the whole day or in the holidays.

This will be a saturday so no problems there.

The bars age limit is 18 i'm afraid. But i'm going to make a request to the owner and see if we can have some younger people in. I know that the absolute legal limit for younger persons in pubs and bars is 9.00pm though.

I will be trying. And there's certainly plenty of places in the day that we could all go with younger people. The Naimco centre for example is great. Bars, Pool, Bowling, lots of games etc. ( Galaxians 3 there is superb! 6 people playing on a cinema sized screen! awesome!*L*)

I hope it's possible for you to attend, becuase i'm sure you can input alot to the evening. :)

I'll contact the owner shortly and put it to him about the younger people attending.

Hm. As far as I know only in the US there are laws for 21 year olds. And in Germany you´ve got to be 21 to get a gun (hm that rhymes)... okay, I´ll be 18 in November- but I´m not quite sure if I can come or not.

    EDIT:

"Being newish to the fanfilm making part of life, I couldn't help on that, however I'd be very interested in attending. I live a couple of hours away by both train and rail."

Is there a difference between TRAIN and RAIL?

You can come into bars in the UK at 17, as long as you don't touch the hard stuff, and are with an adult. 18 is the legal age to drink, but some bars won't let you in unless you are 21.

And, no, there is no difference between train and rail. ;)

I've been a regular at this bar for over 10 years now, and i happen to know that they do have a enforced 18 age limit.

But as i say, i'm hoping they may bend on this for our night.

If this does go ahead, and it's looking increasingly likely it will. I think it would be pretty niffy to have some sort of short film sequence before the main films, maybe something along the lines of the combined fan film that's being discussed on the boards here?

Ripley, I was just echoing a funny line from a series called People Like Us. If anyone hasn't seen it (or heard it; there was a radio version), I recommend they do.

And if you're interested, my fanfilm should be done in a couple of months. I'd be extatic if it was included in the line up. Granted, this obviously isn't much to go on, but I don't want to try and turn this into an advert. :p

The legality is that you can enter a bar at the age of 14 as long as you don't buy anything and you have to be 18 to buy stuff. If a place has 18 limit, it is house rules, so to speak, so he might be able to lower it to 14......MIGHT. but he leagally can't get it anylower than that.
