Oooops - I forgot the reception. So they have to behave for a little while. Yet [face_devil]. I mean after all it's a first class social event. ;)

    * * * * * * * * * *

The reception was in full swing. A lot of couples were hovering across the polished floor and a small band was playing a classic Alderaanian Waltz. A few pilots from Rogue and Wraith Squadron had occupied the bar and chatted with Drinks in their hands. The bridal pair was surrounded by what Janson had called 'the stuffed shirts' ? Princess Leia, Admiral Ackbar, Mon Mothma and General Bel Iblis ? obviously discussing some 'higher politics'.

Mara nodded her thanks to the barkeeper as she grabbed her drink and turned back to look at the crowd. She remembered the almost-quarrel she'd had with Skywalker as he'd asked her to accompany him to the wedding.

"You want me to do WHAT?"

"I want you to come with me to Wedge's and Iella's wedding," Luke calmly replied. Shrugging he added: "I don't particularly feel like going alone and you're the only person I can ask."

Mara glared back. "You must have fried that sorry excuse for a brain of yours. I have no connection to Antilles or Wessiri and given my past ..."

"Wedge and Iella aren't Fey'lya and are actually able to show gratitude," Luke interrupted her. "And I've told you often enough not to denigrate yourself." When Mara's glare became even more venomous he looked at her pleadingly. "Please, Mara."

His blue eyes bored into her own and her resolve faltered.
Damn him, she swore inwardly. Damn him and his blue eyes!

She sighed and finally nodded. "Ok, Skywalker. You've got yourself an escort. Just to make sure that you stop denigrating yourself for a while." She grinned victoriously when Luke cringed slightly.

Something tickled in the back of her mind and Mara snapped out of her reverie. Her gaze sought Luke and with a little relief she noted that he wasn't as closed and depressed as he used to be lately. He was mingling with his Rogue-buddies and seemed to be free from the dark ghosts that had haunted him since his and Callista's parting.

Mara smiled inwardly. Although she'd never admit it she cared for him as a friend ? perhaps as her only real friend ? and she hated it to see him hurt. But after his brush with the Dark Side and then the disaster with the body-snatcher he hadn't been himself and she had no idea how to bring him out of it. So she stayed away, aware that his healing process would take a long time, but right now she thought she saw him making the very first steps along that path. He grinned, that youthful grin she'd come to lo ... Like, she admonished herself. Maybe she should give him some space to process the past events, but visit him from time to time to remind him that he had friends.

As her gaze continued to roam across the attendees a strange feeling of deja vu passed over her. She followed the movements of the dancing couples and fastened her eyes on a redheaded woman. She didn't know why, but she had the overwhelming feeling that she knew her ? although something was wrong with her current appearance. Mara called on the Force to access her memories and tried to place the woman's face, comparing it to the many people she'd met as Karrde's Second-in-command and as ... The Emperor's Hand! Suddenly she knew ... and her mind's eye went back more than a decade.

"What is thy bidding, my Master?" Mara knelt before Palpatine and waited for his orders.

"Rise my Hand," the Sith Lord cackled. "I have a new mission for you. You will be my eyes and ears among a group of Intel Trainees."

    "Yes, Master," Mara answered obediently.

"Excellent," Palpatine smiled viciously. "There is a certain project of the Imperial Intelligence Service called 'Project Sublevel 17'. It was started ten years ago by Armand Isard and his daughter has carried it on. I want you to pose as new trainee and assess the loyality of the trainees and the instructors. There are rumors that the trainees are taught to b

    * * * * * * * * * *

Kirney leaned against one of the pylons near the small balcony with the band and watched the goings with mild amusement. She was nursing a glass of fruit juice instead of the Corellian sparkling wine; she'd decided to cut back on alcohol because of her pregnancy. She searched the room for her daughter and found her in a corner playing with the youngest of the Solo children. A smile appeared on her lips as she watched them. For them life was so simple and interesting ? they didn't know the hardships and problems, yet.

"We should be grateful that they are just three or four. If they were ten years older I'd be worried about them flirting."

She turned towards the source of the amused male voice and froze. "General Solo," she croaked and gave him a nod half politeness, half a gesture of unease.

Han rolled his eyes and sighed. "It's just Captain. I gave up my rank years ago. Why does everyone keep calling me that?" he half-whined and tugged at his stiff collar.

Kirney scanned his appearance from head to toe and back and even rose to her toetips to check the rank badges on his shoulders. "Maybe you should stop running around in a General's uniform," she teased. "Or does your wife like you in uniform? Maybe some kind of show-off?" The corners of her lips twitched, but she kept the smile off her face. The twinkle in her eyes betrayed big amusement, though.

Han pretended to think about that. "Hmmm," he muttered and massaged his chin. "You might have a point there. Might also be her payback for me keeping that metal bikini from Jabba's ..."

Kirney shuddered. "Ah ? I don't want to know." When she looked back at him his trademark smirk was safely tugged on his lips. "I didn't have the chance to thank you for what you've done for me. And right now I don't know what to say or how to show my gratitude."

Han took a sip of his Brandy and let his gaze roam across the crowd. "It was rather easy," he began after a short period of silence. "I've been an Officer in the Imperial Navy myself. Only when I was out of the Academy and saw the real life I understood what the Empire was really about. After I was thrown out of the Imperial Navy I wallowed in self-pity for a while, but then I saw the things the Empire did to non-humans and wondered what had possessed me to join the Military." He looked back at her and she could see the honesty in his eyes. "My duel with Zsinj had reached a personal level. For me it was more a question of pride to beat him than just a successful mission. After Selaggis I couldn't stop myself and had to gloat." He smiled a bit sheepishly. "I told him to kiss my Wookiee."

Kirney hiccuped and coughed before looking at him in disbelief. "You told him to do what?"

"I said 'Kiss my Wookiee!'" Now Han grinned. "You should have seen his face!"

"I wish I had," she giggled and shook her head. "But I was busy - I had to disappear. I knew I wasn't the most popular figure in the New Republic."

"But you helped us, helped me," he objected. "Not just to defeat Zsinj, but to keep more of my pilots and crewmen alive. That was most important to me."

She smiled at him. "But that doesn't mean you had to help me getting amnestied."

"To be honest that was my first idea when we saw your message to Donos," Han admitted. "But Wedge mentioned the law and then I knew I could not help you getting back at that time ? that would have to be done by the bureaucrats themselves." He took a deep breath and looked at her earnestly: "I know how it is to be wanted, I have been there. I know a lot of people that ended up on the bad side of the law, but don't deserve to be there. I cannot help all of them, but in your case it was easy."

Kirney sighed. "Thank you," she whispered and kissed Han on the cheek.

Han grinned and politely offered her his arm. "My pleasure, Mrs. Slane-Donos. May I have the next dance?"

Kirney gracefully took his arm. "Of course, General Solo," she quipped grinning.

    Han rolled his eyes

Ok folks. Here is the enxt part. Unfortunately it comes with bad news.

I have been to Frankfurt today and as it looks now I will be working there for the next two months. That means I will become very rare over here as I will not move my computer there, too. I am not sure if I have Web access at work just to check the boards and my other stuff, but if worst case strikes I will have a look at the Web exactly once a week (when I am back at my appartment here before going to my parents home). So my next project - which is at roughly 50% of storyline - will be on hold for longer than I had hoped. :(

    * * * * * * * * * *

Tycho led his wife from the dance floor towards the bar and ordered them something to drink. "It's going well, isn't it?" he asked as he handed her the glass of Brandy.

"Yes, and that surprises me. I mean we have Janson and the Wraiths in one room ? normally there should be chaos and disorder, but they behave! Especially Janson."

Tycho chuckled. "Wedge said something about precautions, but I didn't want to know any details." His gaze scanned across the attendees and the smile on his lips widened. "When you see all of this ? do you regret not having a formal wedding?"

Winter didn't answer for a short while and Tycho looked at her from the corner of his eyes trying to gauge her mood. She smiled ever so slightly as she looked around. "I don't know," she admitted. "On the one hand I'd really like to have a typical Alderaanian ceremony, but on the other hand ..." Her voice trailed off and she sighed quietly.

"Let me guess," Tycho muttered dryly. "Janson?"

Winter nodded wistfully. "Not hard to guess, isn't it?"

"Not really. But I think I've found a way to keep him in line."

Winter stared at him as if he'd just told her that their native planet was still intact. "Are you drunk?"

He gave her a mock indignant glare. "I merely had two drinks."

She arched an eyebrow. "I will let that pass, dear. But ... but keeping Janson in line? That's like Vader turning good!"

Now it was his turn to raise an eyebrow. "Everyone has a weak spot. And if I might remind you ? Vader did turn back at the end, didn't he?"

Winter blushed slightly. "So much for my holographic memory. You mean ...?"

Tycho held up a hand to stall her question and leaned over to kiss her. "Let's discuss that later in private."

"Yes dear," she answered mock compliantly, but her eyes twinkled a bit and gave her teasing away.

Kirney studied her reflection momentarily in the glass. For the wedding and reception she had been introduced as: "Myn's wife Kirney, former Wraith or Alina, the Flowermaiden's Mom." The feeling of peace with her past had begun to grow. "Need help sweetheart?" she called to Alina as the door to the Ladies' fresher swung wide. She felt the whoosh and then two eyes squarely on her. She heard a voice that cut through her peace as only two voices in her memory could ? Isard's ? and Mara Jade's. She raised her hand to forestall any further comment while she turned.

    "Gar ?"

"Hello Mara ?" A frothy dressed girl stepped in front of Kirney.

"Mommie, can you do up my dress?"

"Sure, turn round." Kirney tied the bright ribbons on the back of the gown. "Now go and have fun, I'll be along shortly."

"Daddie said he'd dance with me next!" she called as she skipped out the door. Then Kirney lowered her hand and looked at Mara.

"Gara Petothel ? I see you've been very busy."

"Mara Jade, I thought I saw you here this afternoon ? Alina doesn't know my name was Gara Petothel ? she's only three and I don't want to explain it all now."

Mara raised her eyebrow in question, "How ? ?"

Kirney finished the sentence "... did a former Imperial Intel agent become a Wraith and marry into the Republic? When I started that - I was Lara Nostil ? the pilot, and when I blew that assignment six ways to Sith ? and I realized who I had become; I had to toss it all out and become the redhead Kirney Slane." She watched Mara's face for a reaction. She could see the wheel

The last part before the Epilogue. Enjoy ;)

    * * * * * * * * * *

Ten minutes later Myn gave Tycho the signal to get the bridal pair out onto the landing pad. He gave a signal to the bandmaster and the music slowly faded ... The guests were turning their heads realizing that something was up.

"Ladies and Gentlemen," Tycho spoke up and waited for the murmurs to abate. "All good things must end and it is now time for the bridal pair to leave," he continued and winked at Wedge and Iella. "Your transport is waiting outside and will take you to your accommodations for tonight." He smiled mysteriously and moved towards the main door.

Behind him the guests formed an aisle and waited for Wedge and Iella to march along it. Rice, confetti and paper streamers filled the air as the two of them ran along the aisle, Iella clutching the front of her skirt trying not to stumble. Thundering applause and cheers accompanied the newly weds as they left the hall.

Outside, the Rogues formed an honor guard and escorted Wedge and Iella towards the landing pad. Their wives followed suit and 'tidied up behind them as always' ? at least Sera Darklighter thought so. As they reached the landing pad the Donos family ? with the exception of Alina who had been told to stay in the hall ? awaited them.

"With the best wishes from Slane Transports," Kirney said formally and pointed at the Kolot's Lair.

Wedge shot Tycho a sideway glance. "How about filling us in on where we will spend the night?"

"He is eager, isn't he?" Gavin quipped. The Rogues broke out in chuckles and the newlyweds flushed crimson.

Tycho sobered up first and spoke up. "As I said this transport will take you to your accommodations for tonight. The Cruise Liner Durindfire is waiting in the orbit and will take you to Mon Calamari. From there one of their Shuttles will take you to your honeymoon destination."

Wedge and Iella stared at each other, mouths hanging open and totally at a loss of something to say.

"And without any further delay ? meet your pilot and air hostess," Myn announced and thumbed his com. Then the main hatch opened slowly and steam vented off some exhaust openings.

Kolot and Beshi ? dressed in miniature versions of the uniforms worn by employees of the Galaxy's most famous Shipping Line ? stepped down the ramp. "Greetings, General," Kolot spoke up and stepped forward to shake hands with Wedge. "Congratulations for the wedding. Kolot wishes this union all the best. Long and happy marriage!"

Wedge grabbed Kolot's paw and shook it, smiling and shaking his head. "Thank you." Shooting a sideway glance at Myn and Kirney he stated: "You couldn't keep yourself from doing that, eh?"

Kirney smiled apologetically. "Sorry, General. But it was too tempting to see their reactions," she said and nodded towards the rest of the crowd.

Only then Wedge realized that the rest of his friends were deadly silent. All of them stared at the two Ewoks, disbelief and surprise written across their faces.

"How is that possible?" Iella asked dumbstruck and gave her husband an uncomprehending look.

"I will tell you later. After all we have eight weeks to discuss that," he smiled.

"Correct," Kirney chimed in. "Get going or you will never get to sleep tonight. Move it."

Wedge pulled his still dazed wife towards the Shuttle while Myn, Kirney, Tycho and Janson ushered the crowd to the far end of the landing pad. Together they watched the Kolot's Lair take off and disappear between the myriads of other ships buzzing above them.

Meanwhile Corran had found his voice again. "I have seen a lot of strange stuff, but this has to be the top of it." He shot a small glare at Myn and Kirney and said matter-of-factly: "You two ? don't expect to get away without explaining. And I want the whole story."

Myn smiled and squeezed his wife's shoulder. "I suggest we go inside. This is going to take a while."
