    Hi!

I am putting together a Zeltron costume for C4, but one item has me stalled: the skin color!

I need a good skin makeup that won't rub off too much in a magenta color. Bitty tubs of eyeshadow paint aren't nearly enough!

A way to 'fix' makeup so it doesn't rub off would be good, too. This stuff is going on my arms and shoulders and I don't want to leave a magenta trail behind me!

    Thanks for any help...

You might try looking in the Twilek threads, as they too should have to deal with that issue. Could be help there.

If you're looking for a metallic look you might want to try Ben Nye Lumiere makeup and seal it with Final Seal.

You can also find some good colors in their other palets as well. I don't know if Final Seal will work over cremes but it works well with dry makeups.

I've also heard of, but never tried myself, people mixing crushed Lumiere with final seal and placing it in an atomizing sprayer. Something you might want to experiment with.

Beyond that you might want to look into some of the ink based airbrush make-up's such as Temptu Pro. These can be applied with a brush or sponge, though are best used with an airbrush. The biggest con about these is the expense.

now this may get shot down (like immediately), but wouldn't Latex work?

Warning! Site contains some nudity (it's not porn)!

Krylon Body Paints... There may be a link in the twi'lek threads. Now here's the thing with Krylon... it's not oil-based so it isn't slimy and hard to get off like the Ben Nye... now, if you rubbed your colored arm against someone in say, a ceremonial white Leia, red WILL come off, but the point is, even through sweat, or rubbing, the color stays on your skin, and it washes off without special solvents. I have used Ben Nye paint for my Illyria costume (if you've ever seen the series Angel) and the Ben Nye was kinda streaky. I have some friends that went to a convention as Orion Slave Girls (silly Trekkies) and I was with them all day, they were painted Green from head to toe... they didn't need touch-ups, it went on smoothly (they recommended putting a base powder on first, they discovered this the second year they did this) and the make up was light enough that they sometimes forgot they were painted green and only remembered when they realized everyone in the restaurant was staring ;)

Ah, there's my link... I got Krylon paint here: http://www.facechange.com/

If you live anywhere near LA California, I think there's a store you can actually pick it up at there too.

I don't think you'd want to use liquid latex anywhere that you have body or facial hair. I wouldn't! I've played with that stuff before.

Woofer: Thanks, I'll check Twi'Lek threads, too. :)

abodeofthedamned: Thanks for the suggestions! I'm especially interested in 'Final Seal'.

JediKnightGareth: I don't think liquid latex would look natural enough. For those wanting more daring Zeltrons or any other scantily clad costume, it could work great, though.

Verdaera: I will definitely look into the Krylon Body Paint. Unfortunately I won't be in LA until C4, so I'll have to order it. :) Thanks!

Jedi-Loreen: Ew! I'm in no hurry to shave my arms, so I think that makes latex perminantly out!

That is "Kryolan", not "Krylon". Kryolan makes make-up, Krylon makes spray paint. Don't mix them up ;)

I went to a stage makeup store this week to find out about face/body paint. They had a makeup system from Kryolan with a alcohol-based solvent and a dry cake. I got some painted on the back of my hand, and I kept it for a few hours. It covered pretty well and did not smear off, but it did flake off a little with flexing and wear. I perceived the surface to be more sensitive to wear during the first few minutes but that could have been just me.
I guess this is Kryolan's equivalent to the system from Ben Nye mentioned above.
