Chic, IL Zephyr Cafe to close October 22

I heard it mentioned on XRT News this morning and found this article at SunTimes.com. Zephyr Cafe is to permanently close for business on Sunday, October 22. For those who don't know, Zephyr is the birthplace of Chicago Force, where the line planning for Episode I began in February 1999. We have returned there time and again for meetings and our 5th Anniversary Party and Line Reunion. NewCity just named Zephyr as Best ice-cream parlor in its annual Best of Chicago issue.

SOB, I remember when they first opened.....yes, I am that old

The only other, amazing Ice Cream Parlor closing that really
got to me was called, The Buffalo Ice Cream Palor,
it was at Irving and Pulaski.

Their specialty was remembering the order!
no matter how big or complicated or specialized.
I have memories of groups of 10, and us talking about
how everyone got the right thing and fast.

so, are there any good Ice Cream places left out there....

 

That place was nice....
that so bites...

 

wow, i'm gonna miss this place. that's a real shame. too bad CF won't have time for one more trip down memory lane.

I found an mention at Metromix.com that there will be an auction of mementos from Zephyr in mid-November and that manager Rosemary Lucas will open a new Zephyr Cafe in the summer. It'll be smaller with a modified menu. She's currently scouting for locations.

So, why isn't CF planning on heading over there after the Kane County Toy Show? At least the townies should head over there for one last beer and Ice Cream Sundae (preferably mixed together in the same bowl).

That's not a bad idea, except that Kane County Fair grounds is literally about 60 miles away.

I did want to go one last time, but Oct 22 snuck up on me.

 

Yeah, me too. My calendar went from Oct 21 right to Oct 23, then BAM! There was Oct 22 right behind me in the shower, sticking a sharpened toothbrush handle between my ribs. Never saw it coming.

 

Anyone who wants to defeat the Cavity Creeps, that's who!
