It's also just counterfactual, these convenient narratives that everything grotesque in a given fandom is part of a sinister out-group excuses the dynamics of the fan group itself in the creation of these problems.

I don't really think that's what's going on. Insofar as I can tell, that's a term of self-identification.

The group it refers to is murderous, cult-like, retrograde in its views and deranged in their fixation on them. We should take every possible opportunity to denounce them, as we do their close ideological cousins the "alt right" racists. I would have to assume Hidalgo is aiming at this group, not what is frankly a very common life status, save that most people don't spiral into evil freaking out over it.

I didn't know what an Incel was. I guess he could have said "Drop the trailer at Celibation" but I guess that would imply they were being celibate by choice where incel is involuntary.

Anyway, Pablo joke aside, since we're a committee/community of fans, let's see if we can help the "group of producers" with ideas and give them the list of things that need to be fixed. Add or edit the list based on your feelings/thoughts. I'm interested to see what kind of consensus we get.

Yes, that’s generally how name-calling/insults works.

The question is the nature of the insult. I don’t think he was criticizing people’s sexual activity levels. I think the put down was aimed quite squarely at this self-proclaimed ideology of hatred.

 

I'm going to be honest a lot of these are also basically the same changes proposed by people not as progressive as the JCC so idk what makes the whole "Remake TLJ" crowd automatically misogynist incels. Are there some there? Sure, but there are some everywhere.

This new trend of accusing people who don't like a movie of being sexist/racist or whatever is worrisome. Some people don't like a movie. We gotta learn to get over that. We should have practice; we have Wocky here who doesn't like anything.
