I'm going to do something similar when I buy a Star Destroyer. Curse them for beating me to it.

The old midi-size star destroyer (8099) would be a more economic way to do that scene, Digs. Which SD set are you considering, I assume the latest the minifig scale one (75055)?

Regardless, you should consider bricklinking it and just getting the pieces you need, considering you'll only need about 1/2 of them, and none of the minifigs.

I only understood half of that post, but I want to get the one out now, which is "full size". I plan on building it and then deconstructing as needed to bury it in sand. LEGO sand, obv.

Fair enough. Bricklinking is buying parts as needed from the bricklink.com site (which has hundreds of sellers).

Beware... that full size Star Destroyer is long and wide. It doesn't fit on a shelf properly, without a couple of inches hanging off. We've got ours on our coffee table. If you're going to set it up as a scene, you'll need a lot of space.

Depends on the shelf size, surely?

I just went and measured my SD and bookshelf (similar to the one you're using for your collection). At the SD's widest point, it's about 13 inches, and my shelf is about 11 inches. I mean, it could go on the shelf, but I'd be nervous about it hanging off that much.

But mine will be missing a big chunk, and I'll probably get different, nicer shelves by then (I think the current ones are about 11 inches, too)

Obviously, the back is the widest point, so if you're getting new shelves, just make sure they're at least 13 inches deep, and you should be good.

Those things could have happened, we only saw some of the Hoth battle. Most of what we saw was from Luke & Leia & Han's perspective.
The Empire had its fleet above Hoth ready to bombard once the energy shield was destroyed (which is why Vader going down there made no sense, if you're going to bomb a place from orbit your commander shouldn't be at the target) & to prevent the Rebels getting away. It's entirely possible X-Wings were used to combat TIE fighters the Empire sent out to stop Rebel ships.
Rogue Squadron was busy trying to stop the AT ATs so they couldn't protect the transports.

Oh man, are you trying to shoehorn videogame logic into the movies? We had a thread for that back in the day. It was hilarious, I will try and find it.

Somebody posted this on the TFN article for the Luke picture, seems to be a pretty slam-dunk discrediting: http://imgur.com/WwFZTGj

Edit: By contrast, the Making Star Wars shots are pretty convincing.
