That is one possibility. But there is another. Perhaps violence would become more and more unacceptable and heinous. Then perhaps, we might at last define violence down. Unconcerned with the threat of physical harm, we could attend to the other great travesties of human society: the violence of economic systems that oppress the disadvantaged, of words that harm the human psyche, of that done to the social contract when people are lawless.

Is it, though, when killing is superfluous to that defense? Consider: A Nebulon B escort frigate jumps from hyperspace and launches an all out assault on a space station. In one scenario, the space station scrambles to respond, deploying conventional fighters and bombers to destroy the frigate. As a result, there are 850 violent deaths. Some are incinerated by turbolaser canons, some asphyxiate miserably as the life support systems fail, some are sucked out into the cold, dark void of space. None has a chance to reform, or reconsider their lives, or make up for the wrongs they have done. Now, in the other instance, a Nebulon B escort frigate jumps from hyperspace, but with a combination of mag pulse torpedoes and ion cannons its weapons systems and propulsion are successfully disabled.

In both cases, the assault was stopped. Neither was harder to execute than the other. The only difference was that in second case, some eight hundred and fifty lives were saved. Husbands spared their wives, parents given an opportunity to see their children, children able to keep growing with their love and nurturing of their parents. Why should anyone prefer--or ever choose at all--the first scenario?

I never thought a post about Star Wars could make me agree with Max Weber out of spite, but here we are I guess.

Wocky did you find the hero Most Honourable in the recent film by fearless anti-Jew warrior Melvin Gibson, Hacksaw Ridge?

    I never saw that film.

That's nothing in comparison to the revelations about Admiral Maximilien Marie Isidore de Ackbar.

ok but it has its basis in fact, and also there's Wikipedia to help you get accustomed with the plot if rehabilitating (undeservedly) the career of Mel Gibson isn't your thing financially.

"So yea. [...] Yea, who knows.”

Looks like she's being misquoted again. Nobody says "yea"

You always find the best sites, VLM:

"Daisy Ridley denied that she is done with Star Wars following Episode IX. Rolling Stone, the outlet known for running the fake University of Virginia rape story, reported Daisy Ridley didn’t “want to play the character after the next movie."

It sounds like Daisy Ridley's contract reads that she's in for 3 movies. Therefore after episode 9, her contract is fulfilled and she is done. So when she said she was done she wasn't lying - she was just being misinterpreted that she wouldn't be interested in returning.

There are many possible scenarios that one could assume:

Daisy would be interested in returning for another trilogy
Daisy wouldn't be interested in returning for another trilogy
Daisy would be interested if the price was right and she wasn't involved in anything else
Daisy wouldn't be interested even if the price was right and she wasn't involved in anything else
Daisy would be interested in returning but JJ told her character dies in Episode 9
Daisy wouldn't be interested in returning because JJ told her character dies in Episode 9
Daisy is interested in returning but it sounds like Disney's focus is a new trilogy and she's not involved with it
Daisy wouldn't be interested in returning because once this new trilogy is done in 6-10 years she may not be interested for personal reasons

So she's right: she doesn't know and it all depends on Disney.
