Slightly ****ed up that the old canon fans are all going to die, though.

Solo is "unwanted"? Then you're saying that cinemas will be empty on opening day? Either that or we'll see a ***t-load of ticket pre-sales, & millions of people lining up to see it. A strange reaction to something they don't want.
    Which time?

He didn't die in the second greatest movie of all time, TPM, Maul was only slightly injured.

Okay, see, I could sort of buy someone enjoying TPM, but now you're clearly just lying outright.

Well I mean we all are at some point. There will most likely be new people who find the old canon more interesting.

I was laying inventory tickets at work and one of the Star Wars displays was numbered 525. I was the only excited.

    Rebels getting pretty weird.

Are Disney in a rush to end it?
With two episodes a week it'll be over next week.
Could be a long wait until the next show.

An awful lot left to explain in not much time

When you're in a rush to end something you pull it from a decent time slot and burn off remaining episodes during the summer. So, no.

    Again with the explaining?
What the **** is with this need of having things explained all the time? Movies and TV shows aren't lectures.

I see it again with the novelization of the new film. Luke's position explained! Kylo Ren's history with the dice explained! Kylo Ren's feelings towards the rockets explained! Or the press rounds that the director is still making. Rian Johnson explains Luke's death! Rian Johnson explains where Rey was! EXPLAIN!

If they ever make a Star Wars movie where they don't explain ****, that'll be the one most resembling the original film.

What was explained? I think more questions were raised in the last night's episodes than things were explained. I find the episode guides on the official site to be very helpful because they help to explain the thinking behind the decisions that the writers made when making the episode.

I contend that ANH explained plenty, especially in two or three key scenes near the beginning. It's usually simple (a Republic used to exist but was transformed into an Empire; Luke's father was a Jedi and killed by Vader; Obi-Wan probably caused Vader's injuries), but it isn't like there's no exposition or world-building.

That said, I don't think TLJ needs more explanation than what is already in the film. The only stuff it left unexplained were things caused by TFA's lazy aping of ANH.

I meant the need to have all minute details explained in reference material, which is then called "canon" so that nobody has to worry if any of it fell short on exposition.

True, but the attitude motivating the existence of that material (or the attitude motivated by the existence of that material, or I guess really it's a feedback loop) is much harder to avoid and we're already seeing what dumb, dumb consequences it has for film discourse. The CinemaSinsification of critique, if you will.

Looking on how the Star Wars franchise is canonizing novels, video games, comic books, animation and whatnot, Lucasfilm is following the business plan of Marvel comics in that it's incorporating "tie-ins" to fill in the gaps and a way to generate revenue on the coat tails of the larger story/movie; where they sell you on "You wanted to this information? Do you want the complete story? Then buy this." This is something comic book readers have been complaining about for years. Of course, it's not referred as "tie-ins" but companion pieces.

As far as last night's episode of Rebels, yeah it raised numerous questions that don't seem will be answered in the finale. In fact, last night's episode was the setup for a spinoff series, featuring

The episodes failed to answer questions, they just raised more.

More than they can explain, which means random comics or whatever will be made to explain what should be in the show
