I like how many of the review headlines edge slightly away from the superlative:

"A Near-Perfect Reinvention of the Star Wars franchise"
    "Almost a Triumph!"
    "Just Shy of a Masterpiece"

I want to see the "Almost a Triumph!" quote on the front of the inevitable Blu-ray box.

I need to clear my head. I'm as giddy as a 45 year old about this movie.

Apparently the Variety review drops a major spoiler. Tread carefully.

Likewise. Sadly, I'm not even sure if the movie drops by my mudhole this weekend, so yeah, see you when I see you folks. And enjoy.

So, I think we've established Tony and Vid are a couple. I don't know why they're being shy, I am very happy for them.

My mother's agreed to babysit the six week old so I can see it again at the weekend with Mrs Ender, so that'll be Thurs and Sat. But allow me to pretend cautious optimism is a thing and that I don't have a first class ticket on the Hype! train.

I liked your post about TFA in the Ready Player One thread, Ender. TFA is held together by Ridley and Boyega. They are perfectly cast, and their infectious, enthusiastic performances make TFA very rewatchable. Pretty much the only thing TLJ could do wrong is not give Ridley and Boyega enough screen time.

I got the impression from reviews that perhaps Boyega gets too much screen time.

I thought Ridley was pretty average in TFA, let's hope RJ got more out of her in this one. It sounds like he did.

    Ford carried the film.

If he wasn't on such good Solo form it wouldn't have got away so easily with its blatant rip-off style.

Boyega had great chemistry with everyone he was paired with, but they obviously haven't paired him with Ridley or Isaac this time around and it sounds like his sub-plot is the slowest and least interesting. I would love to see him paired up with Kylo Ren (platonically), but I'm guessing that isn't going to happen either.

tom you have to understand that Richard is an actual doyen of cinema and if he says Daisy Ridley was average, then I'm afraid neither you - nor I for that matter - may disagree with him.

I must've been the only one who read about how she cried on set because JJ told her she was too wooden.
At least he pushed her to be fair, Lucas would've just left her to do it however & never make any effort to get more out of her.

She's not bad, certainly not like anyone in the PT. But she certainly didn't carry TFA.

Driver & Boyega are much better actors than her. And they're much better in TFA

He said she was too wooden.

    She cried.

    She then stopped being wooden.

I don't know how you failed to understand that third part. Because guess what? If it hadn't of changed, she wouldn't have told the story.

You sure you don't want another male telling you Rey's a Mary Sue despite being absolutely like Luke Skywalker in ANH? I feel like we're almost there. Just hang on a bit longer.

I mean, she cried in the audition tape and that was basically one of the reasons she got the role, but that's not imporant. What's important is that Richard read somewhere that she was wooden. He then stopped reading, exhausted, and collapsed in a doyen-shaped puddle, which is why he missed the bit about it being the first day and her being nervous.

Also, I mean, the main reveal for me was that Richard reads.
