Daisy Ridley's biggest problem was that she was visibly on the verge of cracking up laughing in most of her scenes with Boyega. Despite her being the least skilled and least experienced of the main actors she was absolutely a major factor in TFA's success. There is more to connecting to the audience than just acting skill, and many of the greatest movie stars from history have been rather limited actors, just as many great actors fail to become stars. Ridley captivated a large chunk of the audience, and that is why she'll probably be getting the lion's share of the screen-time in the next two films.

Um, no, as the Professor of Advanced Film Studies at Oxford, Richie, said - she was wooden.

There is no such thing as “too much screen time for Boyega.”

Daisy Ridley was really good and sold the vulnerability and strength of her character.

That said, every time I watch the movie and she gives that weird "NO!" to BB-8 after they first meet I chuckle.

It's not every day we get to form a misguided opinion on a new Star Wars movie. It will not happen more than once every 6-9 months and perhaps a bit more often once the anthology films become official sub-franchises with their own extended sequel pipelines with a bit of flexibility to account for crossover anthology team-ups that bring two sequel channels into a single anthology subfranchise sequel (or eventually prequel) film. Every 3-4 months seems like a good long term base frequency for a chance to form an opinion on a new Star Wars movie.

They are special days. I've already formed an opinion on TLJ and on the Han Solo film. But Friday will be a special day, for that's when I form my opinion on Episode IX.

She'll have the most screen time because she's the main character.

Even if she was the the worst actor out of the whole cast, she'd still get more screen time.
Hayden did in the PT, because he was the focus of the story.

Her character was interesting, primarily because she actually had development.
We know nothing about Poe or Finn's background prior to TFA. Rey's past is mysterious but we learn far more about her than anyone else in the movie.

And there are those who came to see TFA just because it had a lead female character, regardless of how well done the character was.
Just as there are those who have never previously seen Doctor Who that will now be tuning in because of Jodie Whittaker.

    And there we have it.

Are you concerned about white genocide in film, Richard?

I'm so worried about the sanctity of the audience seeing stupid space shows and movies aimed primarily at 8 year olds.

So you were glad then that the traitor was a black man, since he was undoubtedly ruining the white male supremacy of the films/

You didn't learn anything of Fin's character before the events of TFA?

Why weren't you paying attention to the film?

    The lead isn't a male.

    Chewbacca, Finn, BB-8 & Poe aren't white.

I see no white supremacy in the movie.
Even from the First Order, since the leader is an alien.

The OT had far more of a problem with that. But that was the point of the Empire

I wasn't inferring it in the film, just in twits in the audience who are pissy the lead is a female. They tend to also have issues with race. :)

No, I checked the Big Chart of Arbitrary Gatekeeping and you're only allowed to see this mass market space movie aimed at children if you've read all the tie-in novels; there's nothing I can do.

    Those people aren't real fans.
Just like those threatening to boycott Who because of the gender change.

Neither are those who only went to see TFA because of the gender of the lead, or praised TFA for being so inclusive because apparently the previous films were racist & sexist.
Clearly the last 50+ years of Sci-Fi have passed those people by.
